Hi chipmaster...thanks for your comments. I agreed that comments on this forum need to be taken with some light-heartedness. When I'm getting anxious, however, light-heartedness is difficult to maintain...:).
With regards to medication, I'm taking celexa, and it has worked well over the last 4-5 years. I went through a very stressful period over the last six months, and my anxiety came back (I had been panic-free for about 4 years). Of course, my thoughts and suspicions turn to "celexa's not working anymore" (discounting both my negative thinking and life circumstances). Then, someone posted a comment on this forum that their medication "stopped working" and that was enough to trigger the obsessive thought that mine wasn't either (even though I haven't had a panic attack in about 5 weeks - just high levels of anxiety). Like the panic program says, when we wear fear goggles, we hear things that confirm our fear.
chimpmaster: I don't find your postings anxiety-provoking at all. Your entries are always so well organized and packed with great info. It's like you said about being desensitized... the more you challenge it the weaker in those situations it becomes.

I hope MY posts arent making you feel too anxious!
The thing about visiting a forum like this, is that it can be quite
confrontational. Everyone is talking quite freely with information,
advice and personal experiences (and fears) with regards to anxiety
disorders.
It can be a bit of a reminder in a negative way, but it can also be a
really positive thing if you get out of it advice which helps you.
You must remember that for every persons negative experience there
are literally thousands of people with positive experiences. Adverse
reactions are recorded as being 1 in 10,000 for most major SSRI anti-
depressants or less. And you will always read about the negative
stories, as people usually dont bother to post about positive
experiences.
When I first started visiting this forum, even though I had already made
significant progress in terms of recovery, I would see that word "panic"
in the url and the site title - all over the page in fact, and it would
remind me of panic attacks. That took a bit of time for me to become
desensitized to it.
Then again, a key part of recovering from any anxiety disorder is
becoming desensitized to your fears and internal sensations caused by
anxiety.
Id suggest taking a light hearted approach with everything you read
here. Some things will be factual, some will be exaggerated. Dont let
other peoples stories scare you too much as everyone's experiences
are very different.
Relaxation and meditation can be really good straight after (or simply
thought stopping and moving on to something else you enjoy).
bob: I do get anxious when reading this forum too. For me, when I feel anxious I force myself to get my brain thinking about other things... math, spelling words backwards, anything that makes me think stops me from fearing. The point is, if I'm not focused on anxiety or panic it stops. When I'm on this site I'm focusing on my anxiety and panic. So it starts a tiny bit. I fight so hard against my anxiety that I absolutely refuse it to stop me from doing things I enjoy. I enjoy this site and helping others in any way I can- because I remember being in the throws of it. It used to stop me from leaving the house, going to my kids' soccer games, going shopping, going out dansing etc. etc. but I stopped it then- and if writing on this site makes me feel anxious- I absolutely forbid it. The more I share with others the better I feel. And each time that I'm able to do something that at some point in time made me feel anxious than I score a point for the home team! I have a question for other forum members: can anyone relate to the spike in anxiety that comes from reading this forum? Some days, when my anxiety level isn't too high, I find that I actually get more anxious reading certain posts (especially posts related to medication, medication not working, etc.).
How do you handle anxiety from this forum? (Or is that a subject I should put on my exposure sheet...:)).
I really appreciate this forum. Usually, I find relief from my own anxiety, and a sense of identification with others.
