I have the same thing Nina. I'm constantly aware of how fast my heart is beating. I have a bad habit of checking my pulse by putting my fingertips to my wrist.I'm aware of it at night when I try to go to sleep or when I wake up in the morning. Or when I'm feeling really anxious. It drives me crazy!!! How long have you been dealing with Panic/anxiety? I have dealt with it for almost 10 years now and one of my worst symptoms at the onset was my racing heart. I know its very frustrating but take it from me its nothing sinister. Slow, deep breating sometimes helps or to keep really busy, keep your mind occupied. Good luck to you,
Newgal
Hi Nina,
Yeh, it's always a good idea to get these things checked out. Like Misty, pounding heart was the first symptom I ever had. Just every now and then my heart would pound. Strangely usually happened when I was being still, like watching TV was a big one. I asked my friends about it and a few said they had it now and then. I've since had it checked and I'm fine. When I got panic disorder the pounding would happen in accordance with an attack, still does. I read someone say on here once, can't remember who, But they said that the human heart can take a lot of stress. That it's good at regulating itself and slowing down if absolutely necessary. Put my mind at ease a bit knowing that.
hehe and I really love this forum too, Take care :)
Nina,
I had that problem before I even had any other symptoms and knew I had panic disorder. I used to raise my arms above my head or put my hands behind my head(like you are relaxing) and take slow deep breaths. Sometimes the opposite helped. Bending forward with my hands on my knees and breathing slow and deep.
Hope this helps.
Smiles,
Misty
My heart pounds almost all the time. I seem to be getting through the fear fairly well but the physical pounding of my heart continues. I don't know what to do or if this is something to be concerned about. I think that probably the answer to that is "no, there is nothing to worry about" but I am looking for some confirmation. Can anyone out there help me? Even if it is not confirmation I'd like to know what you do with this symptom, if you have it that is.
Thanks! I really love this forum !
