Sounds like you have had a nasty panic attack.
1) Its quite likely what is happening is you are feeling anxious,
overbreathing (a natural reaction to anxiety), feeling more anxious,
hyperventilating, experiencing hyperventilation symptoms (pins and
needles, dizzyness, cant breath etc) and then panicking about it.
A psychologist can help you with dealing with these symptoms, also a
dr can prescribe you medication to help to feel better (preventative) or
to relax (reactive) which will help you cope with the symptoms.
If you have had medical tests and they have ok'ed you, it is most likely
this is what is happening. When we get anxious we overbreathe, and
then eventually hyperventilate. It feels terrible, but understanding
what it is that is happening to you usually helps you to do something
about it.
Dani,
You are NOT alone in this feeling. Everytime I get a panic atatck which is pretty much everyday recently I feel like I cannot breath and I also feel like I am going to die. Sometimes it is so bad that I pass out but I always get through it. You best bet is to take it slow and let it come. The more you fight it the worse you will feel. I have found that breathing from the stomach instead of the upper chest is very helpful during my attacks. I have been to the doctor's many times thinking I was having a heart attack or something else and they have done evry test under the sun on me with everything being A-OK. Just practice your breathing and if you aren't already see a doctor about it. I take Xanax for the really bad attacks and it seems to work almost instantly to help me calm down. Just some advice.. Your in my prayers..
GOOD LUCK!
Melissa
Hi, Dani. Yes it's common for people to feel like they are somewhat detached from their body during panic attacks. It would be good for you to see a teen psychologist. Are you seeing a therapist about it? (Is there a Children's Hospital near you?
last day i felt really bad. all day i had problems with breathing and i totally paniced. my body shivered randomly, sometimes i couldnt even feel my hands or feets. i feel like i cant breath even now although i feel much better than yesterday after i took a special shot that calmed me. that was after 12 hours+ of hard time breathing and panicness.
i went to a hospital to do some test with my mother :\) and the test came out with no physical problems.
my mother told me its all from anxiety, same as the doctors.
anyone has ever felt like that?
is there a way to fix it?
i gotta say that this "cant breath" problem is really strong. every minute i feel like i'll stop breathing and die.
