I WANT SOME ANSWERS I AM GOING CRAZY!

Hi SC78! Welcome! I completely understand what you are talking about. Please hang in there, you can and you will beat this. It takes time, patience and hard work but it is possible. I too have been suffering from this since I was a young girl (around age 9) I'm now almost 19 and still aren't completely healed, actually far from 100%. If you think about it though, what defines 100%? Try and look at this experience as a way to teach yourself valuable lessons. Meditation and self-talk, while they maybe sound a little bizarre and far out there, can really really help in these situations. A book i am reading right now is SO excellent with helping me change negative thinking patterns. When you change thinking patterns and attitude (which I must say is an EXTREMELY hard thing to do, especially after years of living in panic) you will slowly notice the symptoms of anxiety lessening. The book is "Don't Panic" by Dr. Reid Wilson PHD, and I strongly recommend it. Also, find yourself a good doctor who is willing to help you get better on many levels (ie: correcting the possible seretonin balance problem which can cause anxiety and depression, and sending you to a therapist for coagnative behavioural therapy. Try and find some meditation tapes to help you relax and shut down the fight or flight response. Meditation is the basis of getting a handle on panic attacks in my opinion. I use the "Abundant Well-Being Series: Dynamic Stillness" tape, it works great! Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep posting here, it is amazing how group support can help you on your journey to peace! God bless you, Jen

I can totally relate to some of the syptoms you are having. You are not alone and there are many of us who give a s**t. I am one of them. I can't help but empathize with the sensations you feel. I don't fall over but I feel a heaviness in my limbs frequently like an invisible weight has been added to my body. I also feel like my head has so much pressure in it that it will explode (really uncomfortable). As for chest tightness I think many of us can relate to that and it really bites!!! Deep breathing sometimes helps. I also take Adivan when I need it and that really helps me break the cycle without being on meds full time. There are other drugs out there like Xanax that you can choose to take only when your really having a hard time. Hang in there. I just started to apply the Panic Progam on this site and have seen some improvment. Just know that you are not alone, never alone, and that people at this site support each other. I know you must know most of this since you have been experiencing this anxiety for years but try to keep working at it. And I hate it too but sometimes "the system" can help !!! Here's to Peace, Nina5

redface is right, treatment will work for you, but it does take time. Meds will help to calm you down enough so that you can focus on a treatment program. Don't give up, all of us have felt the way you feel and we are living with and conquering this disorder, you can too!

You probably do have more than one or two things going wrong with you. If you have been on meds a while they too can cause muscle problems. But, on the other hand, it sounds like you are in need of something. It's better than self medicating. I did that myself some years ago....and believe me, it's better to be under a doctor's care. My father couldn't take the doctors either, but he ended up a lone alcoholic. So I guess the choice of what you do is up to you. Try to follow this program if you can...I never believed in this kind of therapy, but now I'm beginning to. It's starting to work! Take care of yourself!

I agree with Pamela. I was hesitant about meds but they did bring me back to some normalcy in my life. At least so I could get a few days of normal between the chaos. As you progress the days of normal get longer in duration and the panic and anxiety subside so that you can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Sc78, Reading your post made me really sad. I know how you are feeling because I've felt that way myself. It's taken me a long time to begin to understand why I suffer from panic and anxiety and how to begin to control it, like bob said we have to control it or it will control us. There are alot of people here who have been where you are now and are willing to help in any what that they can. Just keep asking questions and soon you will get the right answers. I know you said you were seeing a therapist , but you didn't mention whether or not you are on any medication. Are you taking anything for your panic and anxiety? Meds really helped to make a major difference in my life, so I try to encourage others to give them a try especially if they have been suffering for a long time and have tried other routes that haven't been successful.

Hi SC78, Sorry to hear of your anxiety and stress. Reading your post, I was struck by how much I could understand your emotions of anger, frustration, despair, resentment, etc. I've been there (and probably most people in this group have as well). I've always valued "being in control" of myself and my emotions. Suddenly, with panic, it felt like I had no control. I could only respond and suffer. My world got smaller...I lost self-esteem, I avoided people, situations. It felt like I couldn't handle even a simple task. I also used to have your symptoms of being light-headed, dizzy, etc. They still come on when I'm really stressed or anxious for a long period of time. Learning how to deep breathe, visualize, and do the muscle relation has really helped. The other thing that I'm really trying to work on is my own expectations. I realize life isn't perfect. I realize I'm not perfect. Yet I still try and act like it should be. So much of my anxiety comes from my high expectations. No one lives without anxiety. Learning how to control it (so it doesn't control me) is what I try and keep as my expectation know. Anyway, welcome here. I'm working through the program too...so far I'm enjoying it!
