Can A Few People Explain Panic to My Wife

I have been showing her the information and I think that has helped, but personal perspective is hard to replace. I do not want to invade anyone's privacy, I'd just like her to understand why I do not want to go the emergency room. I was hoping she would listen to you where she just thinks I have this guy anti-doc thing. I just do not need some trauma doc that is used to patients who bleed or have broken bones that he see and put his hand on telling me I just a fool who "ought to get over it!" I already feel that way, but I can't just "get over it!" I have tried and tried. Thanks to this group I am finding some help, but I still do not need JOCK DOC! I am not that mature.

Yeup, I'd urge everyone touched by panic disorder to come here and have a read. As for how to be helpful during a panic attack. Umm, I think the best thing they can do is just be there. Something not to do is say "don't worry" haha, that's the classic thing we don't want to hear! Instead she could say things like. "I'm here, and when this is over, the world, and me will still be here." I understand it's hard for the person watching us panic. But if people are panicking around us, it'll only add fuel to the fire! If she's worrying about a heart attack run down the list with her and tick the symptoms off. Pain in the arm, grey colour to the skin. To reasure her that it's not a heart attack. Also it couldn't hurt to go to the doctors with her and get checked out. Have the doctor explain the physical changes of a panic attack.

CQ953, Have your wife visit the website. There is a lot of information on the left side (about panic, tools and the library). Susanne

First let me state she is sympathetic and supporting, but she is struggling to understand how to be helpful. She is concerned that I may be having a heart attack, as if I should be so lucky. Can you help her out?
