Craving is driving me MAD

In the beginning I would take like 2 to 4 showers a day. It kept me busy. It felt good. It allowed me to pamper myself, keep my hands busy with washing, and plus you can't smoke when you are sopping wet. heh! Hi Jersey, How are you doing today. All the advice was great. The only thing I can add that helped me was to do something that gives your thoughts a rest. Some of us can control our thoughts.... like changing the channel in our brainst. Others are not as good at that technique. Soooooo.... make it easy to give your brain a rest from thinking about smoking...(as that is what brings on the craves) Do something like watch a movie. Doing that helps you escape for at least TWO HOURS!! It helps so much. Jersy, Hang in there!! I've had those horrible cravings that are back to back with little time in between them. You have to hang on and white knuckle your way through them. Are you drinking lots of water? Water really helps with cravings and cleans your system. Move around all that you can. I know you're at work but run to the restroom, go grab some water, etc. Don't sit there and focus on how bad you're craving. Keep yourself busy and it is true that b**ching out that nicodemon helps. I mean literally chew it out. When you do that, you're releasing sooo much tension and you're putting yourself back in the driver's seat. I say stuff like: "Ahh, bite me!!" "Ahh, back off!!" You're wasting your time!! I'm a NON SMOKER!!" Just say whatever makes you feel better, releases your tension, and puts you in charge. YOU are stronger than that nicodemon. Flush his butt out of your system too with a lot of water. I'm going to post the breathing exercises just below. They really help. Practice them and make sure you push your tummy out when you inhale. Okay? Deep Breathing: 1) Take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time. 2) Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of 7. 3) Repeat this 3 times, as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. Tension Releasing: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5)Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. *It's a skill. You may want to practice several times a day to make it a normal part of your routine. I posted the tension exercises too. Keep posting, don't give up, we're here for you, and you CAN do this. Stay Strong, Tutti PS You are right there around that 30 Day slump. That may be what brought this on. Just know that it DOES pass. jersy, You have passed one month and this is great! It is normal and you have to take time to do something for yourself. Keep up with those coping mechanisms and introduce some relaxation techniques throughout the day. This can help you feel less stressed and help push those craving to the side :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Jersy- Stay strong and hang in there. Here are my thoughts... First, this might be that "nico-demon" trying to get it's claws into you before you cut down on the patch strength. The addiction does like to trick us like that. Second, don't know if it will work for this type of craving (and I know the type!) BUT how about just telling yourself that you're a non-smoker now and that you will NOT smoke and tell that craving to just take a hike, you aren't going to listen to it. Kick it's ash outta town! You have nothing to lose by trying this. Stay strong. You can do it! Hi Jersy This is normal, we all went through this part at one point or another. You need to get mad at the nicodemon and yell at him. Scream at him! Then take some deep breaths and try and relax. This will pass, I promise it will. I went through this to the point of sitting in from of my husband one night and crying my eyes out. He could do nothing but listen and once it was over i felt better and i did not smoke. Remember the NOPE (not one puff ever). So do what you need to do to get through this. Keep posting here, go for a walk, anything that will help you get past this. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,189 Amount Saved: $235 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 0 Mins: 54 Seconds: 22
