stubborn Are you using an NRT, Med, Gum, Cold-Turkey ...what? Did you smoke one (or more)? Drink water, take 'Really Deep Breaths' Get yourself some straws to chew on for the oral fixation part of these craves for a few days.(cut an 8-10" one in half...takes the physical feel of a smoke) Do you want to sleep well? Buy some white turkey breast (luncheon meat) and eat a sandwich 1-hr before you go to bed. You can not smoke anymore. One puff will intensify and increase the cravings,prolong the withdrawal and put you through unnecessary hell. Stubborn, I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day when I quit. I smoked doing everything in my life, sometimes I even had one going in the ash tray while having dinner! You are not going to feel lousy forever! this will pass...I promise. I wouldn't consider it a relapse. It's all part of it. I think most all of us are hit with craves and/or crave slumps. I would suggest making an added effort to get back into the mind set of a non-smoker. Re-visit motivators. Beef up coping mechanisms. Realize that no matter how far you are out, Nic is never too embarrased to hit you up. You've worked too hard to get to this point and yet the quit can be so fragile. You really don't want to be back at square one. Hunker down. Get serious, perhaps explore triggers. Get through, b/c it will pass. Stubborn, I went back and forth through the wringer around the 30 day mark. It lasted 4/5 days and during the that time, I layed low when I could. I went back to what I did the first week I quit. Deep breathing, extra water, tea, watching tv, early to bed...that kind of thing. And eventually it did pass and now I'm back on an even keel. That doesn't mean I still don't have to fight ol' nick from time to time, but its definitely more manageable than it was. And I FULLY expect it will get easier yet! Hang on tight. Think TEMPORARY, because that's what these miserable feeling are. They won't last. Stubborn, I was like you. The whole week heading up to the six week point, I was totally swamped by cravings. Real shock as aside from the first few days, it had been relatively easy for me until then. (and I was a 30 a day smoker!) I spoke to other quitters who all seemed to find it tough around about the six week mark - and that was about ALL that kept me going. I was determined to get past 42 days just to see if it got better. And it did! I held on by the skin of my teeth, drank lots of water, stayed as busy as I could (I had a frantic burst of exercising around then as it was the ONLY time I felt anything like sane and kind of less stressed) and just kept telling myself I was heading up a hill and would be at the top soon. And I marked (as I always do) the days off on my quit poster counting down towards arriving in week seven. Hang in there. By your finger tips if necessary! It will get better. Tutti, The nicotine may be out of your system but this addiction is both physical and psychological. Unfortunately, the psychological doesn't undo itself overnight. The cravings are not indefinite. They will get easier to overcome and dissipate in frequency and intensity. Until then, please be sure to reward yourself often. You are right, you're working very hard and sometimes it's not easy. But then again, didn't smoking make us "sick and tired"...isn't being "sick and tired" from being new non-smokers better than being "sick and tired" from smoking/working on killing ourselves? Stubborn, maybe a nap is just what you need. Do what ever it takes to hold on to your quit. 36 days is awesome, and I'm sure that you look at those days and wonder WHY NOW???? I'm sure that you have read and reread the reasons you quit. So hang tight and don't give up. What ever works for you do it. And know that we are thinking of you and know just where you are... I've heard that right around 30-40 days the cravings have a surge. I'm at 31 days today and so far knock on wood, no surge in cravings. My ammunition this time is devastating and I'm ready to take aim and no prisoners at any craving that dares to show its face at my quit door. The nic may be out of your system but the addition is not out of your head. Stubborn, if you are "thinking" oh man I am craving then you will. Try practicing telling yourself what a breeze this quit is. You CAN put yourself into a positive frame of mind, it takes a little practice but you CAN do it.
