Joseph, I think one of the toughest things about this addiction is the misconception that in a few days, it's all over and done with and you won't ever think about smoking ever again. I thought the same way. I'd heard "after 3 days, the poisons are gone, so the addiction is broken in 3 days. Everything after that is a piece of cake!" But that just isn't the case! If that were the case, I don't think there would be a single smoker on earth, the tobacco companies would go out of business and there would be no need for NRTs, quit smoking aids or even the SSC! But the truth is that each day, you are one day closer to never feeling like this again. Hold on to that thought, ok? It really is true. You smoked for many years... therefore, it's going to take more than 3 weeks to get over this addiction. Three weeks is nothing to sneeze at though, and I'm not belittling it one bit... 3 weeks is amazing and you're doing an excellent job! But it might take a little bit longer till you really start to feel the freedom. But you WILL feel freedom if you stick with this quit. That, I promise! Crave the Quit! Try sucking a glucose sweet or two as soon as you wake. Helps with blood sugars and give a little lift (apparently). I was going nuts in the morning for some time but seem to be fine now. Hi Joseph, No one knows how long that is going to last but you are a non smoker and that is the most important thing. If you do not sleep good then try a long walk in the fresh air. Don't let anything stop you from that. Live a healthy life and you will see that it helps you. Tomorrow is tuesday, maybe then it will get better, who knows. Just believe in yourself and know that your body is healing from all the poisson and that is what makes you feel bad. You can be happy though because the body is healing. Joseph, Many quitters have found this to be a hard craving to get over too. You're not alone. Many have also found it helpful to change their morning routines. Sleeping disturbances aren't uncommon among quitters. Two things can cause this: Either your sleep is being disrupted by coughing and difficulty breathing or You don't need as much sleep because you've quit smoking. (Smoking drains your energy). Here are a few tips that may help you get back on schedule: �Try to get on a sleep schedule. Go to bed at a regular time each night and get up at a regular time in the morning. Try to not stay up late watching TV and try not to sleep during the day. If you get on a sleep schedule, we guarantee that you�ll begin to feel better. �Try to make the room you sleep in as quiet as possible. Consider ear plugs or a sleep mask. �Use your bed only for sleeping. Don�t lounge around in your bed. If you spend too much time lounging in bed, watching T.V., drinking coffee, or eating, your body will learn that your bed is NOT a place for sleeping. �If you can�t sleep after half an hour in bed don�t stay in bed trying to sleep. Get up and do some quiet activity. For example, read a book for a half hour and then try going back to bed. If you still can�t sleep, get up and do something quiet once again. �Try to keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature - not too cold and not too hot. �Try to get some exercise every day. You�ll feel better and sleep will come much quicker. �Try not to exercise or work hard late in the evening. It could make you feel �wired�. �Don�t drink anything with caffeine or alcohol for 4 hours before you go to bed. �Try not to eat a heavy meal in the evening. Don�t eat just before you go to bed. �If you�re not sleeping at night, avoid naps during the day. �Use relaxation techniques. Box breathing may help you relax at bed time. Hope this helps. Hello Joseph It's painful isn't it? This is my 5th attempt at quitting and so far the easiest! I don't think I really wanted to quit before and therefore my mind was playing games with my addiction. I am doing it this time without aids but reading Alan Carr's book. I now understand what has been going on in my head for the past 42 years and I can win this time.....even though I didn't think I was ready.You can too, That sickness in your stomach will go away, you will get better. You are way ahead of me in this quit attempt. Your little monster is getting smaller every day. Don't feed it.....let it die!
