Hi Blu3, I've been dealing with the same food issue since about september last year. Not sure if you remember me or not, but I was posting a lot in a few of your threads about eating. Anyway, I've continued to get better and lighten up about food. I'm still not 'there' yet but I'm making a steady progress. Just about everyone with an anxiety disorder makes a slow recovery. Stick at it, does take time, but it's well worth it. My fear is choking, or vomiting and choking. Anyway the way I'm overcoming the food issue is with a strict routine. Really can't say enough good things about a routine with panic! Plan you meals through out the day, know what you're going to eat. Think about something you could use as a 'safe food' anything you feel would be easiest to eat. Then if you're ever having a bad day with eating, you can at least call on the safe food. Maybe fruit or soup something like that. Mine are soup and oats. Also if you have a blender wack everything in there. That way, if you've been under eating you can at least drink some food and get it in that way. I have strict eating times during the day. I made a rule that if I miss the time to eat, I had to wait until the next time. I did this because unplanned exposure work just doesn't work very well. The discipline really worked for me, for some reason it was calming, gave me a sense of control. Which I think really appeals to us panic sufferers! Different things work for different people so this approach might not be for you. It's worked for me so far. There was a time when I simply would not eat after dark. Now I can, in small amounts. But yeh, I couldn't do that last year! Take care and all the best :)

Hello Blu3, Have you let your doctor know about the eating problems? In the meantime, perhaps eating small frequent meals or cold foods (no nauseating aroma) might help. Keep posting, let us know how you are doing. Susanne

Hi Mike, I've noticed the same thing. I've heard that people who suffer from panic disorders generally do lose weight or have food issues. You are not alone. When my panic attacks were at their worst, just the thought of food made me ill, especially when I was alone. Are you alone? Do you have someone who can eat with you? I found that eating around people made food easier to digest. The way that I was different than you was that I tried to eat away from home. Somehow, if I didn't have to put any thought into preparing the food myself (ex. if someone just put it in front of me) I was able to eat small quantities. I would still get a queasy feeling, but at least it wasn't full on nausea. I also have found that sometimes breathing deeply can help when you feel that sick. I hope this helps you a bit. Regards, Nicole
