jaide, I went through the same thing your going through right now. Unfortunatly thats how panic works, once it gets going , it begins to almost totally consume you if you don't nip it in the bud immediately. What I have learned over the past 7 months, since this all started for me , is to stop the panic and constant worry in it's tracks. When the anxiety comes over you and you start to become afraid, and your mind begins to go in all kinds of different directions you have to think good thoughts. What works for me is say for instant I am having alot of anxiety and I begin to think I'm going crazy and what if I have to go to the hospital and they put me in the psych ward and blah blah blah, you know all the crazy stuff is running rampant in my mind. I force myself to think of something wonderful. I think about when my children were born and how they looked when the doctor first placed them in my arms or I think about when we all went to the beach on our vacation and all of the fun we had. Sometimes I think about when I was young and all of the awesome things I used to do on summer nights, like playing hide and seek and hiding with the cute boy I had a crush on. Maybe it sounds weird, but this has really worked for me. I actually put myself back into these scenarios until my body relaxes and my mind stops trying to give over to the panic. After awhile of doing this your brain will actually establish new paths so that your natural emergency response system (which is the panic) will stop kicking in for no reason.Instead the new paths will go to your calming response. I hope this makes sense to you and helps. Maybe I can save you some money on therapy I'll just let you know what my therapist teaches me. LOL

Thanks Cheryl. It helps when someone else can relate and has been through the same thing. It is SO hard to not think about all of this constantly.I don't mean to think about it,i can be watching tv or reading a book and bam!for some reason i'll start thinking and worrying about it.Any suggestions on how to keep my mind on other things and not get distracted by this panic thought demon? And,I have read that about caffiene too and have already cut back....doesn't really make a difference for me though.

What you are experiencing is exactly what I went through. Only I thought I was claustrophobic or something. Once I found out what it was...it had a name...it had other symptoms etc., etc., things got worse. It seems to feed off our fears and our worries. So my suggestion to you its try to get your mind on to something else (easier said than done sometimes) don't focus too much on it. The more you think about it, the more you worry about it, the more of you it consumes. And cut back on your caffiene intake. I read in here that caffiene can help aggravate the situation and I have been cutting back on it. It actually seems to be helping. I feel great right now! Haven't felt this good in a week. Cheryl

Hi all.I am new here and there's something i'm quite confused about..... I started having panic attacks about 2 years ago,but i didn't know exactly what they were. They didn't happen often, maybe once every 2-3 months, and they really didn't bother me,all i had to do was leave wherever i was or run outside and get fresh air and i was fine.I just kinda laughed them off as freak happenings and even made jokes about them,as did my hubby and kids. However, about 3 weeks ago while in the doctor's office,i had one,he recognized what it was right away, and told me what it was.Now that i have been diagnosed, the panic attacks have been more frequent and it seems to be all i think and worry about and i experience anxiety over it nearly every day.WHY is this?Has anyone else experienced this?I feel like i was better off before i KNEW what was going on and before i started researching it and understanding what it is.Please help me understand what's going on,i feel like i'm going bonkers.
