"I think I can learn from this that I never can let my guard down." Now you've got it! You name the game and call your own shots, but never again think you are strong enough to step into the arena with nicotine.
Thanks for allowing me to say that to you. I'm not trying to be pointing at you. But, this has been a heavy topic in my head in my struggle to quit. You may know by now that I had a quit for 11 years and now stand elbow to elbow with others who didn't have that 11 year quit. People like to say that death is the equalizer of life. Experience has taught me that among others, children and cigarettes rank high up there too.
Best of luck to you. 30 days is a big deal. congratulations.

Good Job, QM! I'm also learning that regardless of what may or may not be racked up on the meter, the guard must never, ever come down. Thanks for the reminder...

thanks, Mouse potatoe. Good thought about the baby food jar. that sounds like some real powerful negative re-inforcement! Fortunately I don't travel a lot - I'm actually an engineer. Just occasionally have to fly somewhere or another. I do know what you mean, though, about not always trying to find the time and location to have a smoke at an airport.
thanks for your thoughts and Congratulations to you on your stats.

Well, I'm on the road this evening. this is historically when I would end up breaking my quit.
I don't know why it is so different during this trip, maybe because I am only 4 weeks into my quit so my guard is up, but the nicodemon doesn't have a shot at my quit during this trip.
I think I can learn from this that I never can let my guard down. I think this is why it will be good for me to keep coming to this site from now until the time I croak (hopefully that will be about 40 years from now) so that I don't forget what this battle is about, how hard it is to quit, how much this habit destroys our health and quality of life, etc.
Thanks for being here, everyone. My one month quit is not in jeapordy tonight thanks in great part to this site and the people who are trudging along with me on this road.
After 29 days, I remain,
The QM

Awesome Quitmeister! Keep going. Like you, I do a lot of road travel for my job and believe me....driving without smoking was the hardest part for me. Unfortunately, my out was to chew on twizzler licorice sticks which was a great substitute for me; albeit, I gained 15 pounds over the year! Just keep remembering how nice it is to be in front of a client and smell good and not smell like an ashtray. Fact is, I used to take an ashtray and dump it into a babyfood jar and added a 1/2 inch of water in the jar. I closed the lid and swirled it around. I kept that in my car. Everytime I felt the need to want to reach for a cigarette (that was no longer there) I would get the babyfood jar from the cupholder and unscrew the lid and take a smell. It was horrible and nasty! Would turn me off instantly! I hope that can work for you.
Also, tune into talk radio as that will distract your need to smoke...but of course pay attention to the road.
Benefit: Never having to run to find a smoking lounge in the airports between flights! Love it, love it , love it!
Mental: Just keep thinking this phrase when you think you may go for a cigarette: "Only one puff away, from two packs a day"....thus, that one puff can ruin it all. Don't do it.
Take care.

Hey QM~ good 2CU :)
Way2go man! Good 2hear U road it out and conquered the trigger.
I used to eat a 'hellofalotta' sunflower seeds on road trips.
*don't care for smokes OR sunflower seeds these days~heh*
Re: the other~
Odds are good you WILL be able to visit the site a lot longer as an ex-smoker if ya know what I'm sayN'.
Eventually you may even find that you stick around mainly because it becomes a 'replacement habit'.
Many of the older members also feel an obligation to 'pay it forward'.
Really though, as long as you live by NOPE (not one puff ever) you'll never fall into that 'just one' thinking trap.
Personally, I have a lot of faith in a a guy that chooses the moniker....the Quit Meister. ;)
