my withdrawal symptoms (?)

for 18 år siden 0 15 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I am keeping a diary of my quit (including food and alcohol patterns) and within this I am noting the odd things that are going on with my body at the moment. I thought I would publish the physical symptoms that I am experiencing (and a couple of mental ones) as it may be of use to some of you: 1. Itchy skin - entire body 2. Itchy eyes 3. Painful teeth & gums upon waking 4. Tickly cough 5. Itchy ears (with a slight ache occasionally) 6. Nail biting 7. Pain in my back (kidney area) 8. Stomach cramps 9. Sniffly nose 10. Hunger pains upon waking (haven't felt those in a few years!) 11. Periods of depression (not constant) 12. Feelings of insecurity 13. Insomnia I know that some of these are mentioned on this site as normal nicotine withdrawal symptoms, but I am using patches, so still have nicotine flowing through my bloodstream. Do we suffer withdrawal from the other crap that is in cigarettes? I am unsure which of my oddities are caused by 1. giving up cigs; 2. using patches;and 3. totally unrelated, but none of the symptoms are too extreme or worry me too much at the moment - so please don't let this post put you off your quit. Clare ,, I'm using the patch as well and like a lot of members who have used the patch, they (and I) remove the patch before going to bed. The 21 mg is the one that I cannot fall asleep with. Are you wearing it to bed.. if so, remove it and see if there's a difference k? Some of the other symptoms sound like withdrawal of all the many carcinagins in cig's that your body is not getting. And some sound like a reaction to the patches. btw.. you have a great quit going.. hoping the side effects wear off real soon :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 76 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 7

You sure got hit with side effects but I expect most of them are related to quitting. (I guess the box of patches will indicate possible side effects) I was a patch user too...but I still went through withdrawal and I had some of your symptoms too. Quitting can be abit of a roller coaster ride...but the ride gets better the longer you go. All the best...... Clare, Yes. In addition to withdrawing from nicotine, we also withdraw from the other chemicals in cigarettes. Furthermore, because of the effect of smoking on physiological responses like blood flow, heart rate, blood sugar and blood pressure there are also many changes going on in your body in that respect. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is always best to consult a doctor. Better be safe than sorry. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

clare....lots of those sypmtoms could be present even with cold turkey quitting. Itching 'could' be related to the patches?? not sleeping could also be related to them. the rest of them are normal for quitting smoking.....and actually nicotine is the addictive substance in tobacco....but smoking that tobacco is what will kill you, not the nicotine. many of the symptoms after quitting are due to stopping the "smoking". I mean picture this....someone tells you that it will be a treat to stand in a room with an open fire and inhale the smoke??? would you believe this???? and yet we light up those stupid cigs and suck in a lung full of smoke....talk about stupid......and we do it to get the nicotine "hit". We indure the discomfort of inhaling the smoke in order to get our "fix" of nicotine. So just bear with the symptoms....most of them slowly pass, (keep watch on your itching however....might ask a pharmacist or doctor about that one if it persists or gets worse) and whatever you do? don't smoke.....it's not an option Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1837 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73,510 Amount Saved: $10470.9 Life Gained: Days: 242 Hrs: 8 Mins: 50 Seconds: 14
