There have been moments since my quit when I knew for a FACT that I felt better when I smoked. BUT -- knowing WHY made all the difference in the world for me. One of the major effects of nicotine is the constriction of arteries. Not just a few arteries... ALL OF THEM. When my body started healing and my arteries opened up, I started feeling CRAPPY all over! No doubt, I felt better when my arteries were squeezed tight and I didn't have all this SENSATION! Here's what helped me get through it: Oxygen. For thirty years, I have been conditioned to breath shallowly. I physically could not take in a deep breath, so I didn't. Now that my lungs are CAPABLE of breathing deeply, I'm still not doing it, not without consciously thinking about it anyway. I don't know for sure what the connection is (I presume my newly-opened arteries mean that my body needs the oxygen), but DEEP BREATHING HELPS. It helps with the grumpiness, it helps with the withdrawal symptoms, it helps with keeping my positive outlook on my quit. [size=4][color=red]Smile. Celebrate. Breathe. :eg: I am a tyrant lately. A miserable, horrible, unfriendly, overly sarcastic, grumpy bum. I was feeling great and doing so well up until yesterday. What gives? When does this crap all go away? I haven't smoked and have no intentions on doing so...so these momentary freak-outs can go away for they are serving no purpose. They do go away right?? Like, someone please tell me that this STOPS eventually??? I smell smoke on other people and yeah I admit, its nasty...but I still get jealous. I am just getting sick of feeling like this. My devilish side tells me that I honestly felt better smoking. Now, before y'all join hands and start singing to bring me back to the sunny side of life...I'm NOT going to smoke. Thanks for all the support guys. I've made it through the day and am feeling better. I am proud to admit that I didn't poke anyone, nor bite them (although I had numerous urges). I'm frustrated that I'm feeling worse now than I did a week ago. I know it is cause my heart, mind and soul are going through a lot. I agree Rainie that one's attitude can hinder or be beneficial. It all depends on how bad you want something and whether or not you feel you deserve it. I have no doubt that I'm going to make it through this, as will the rest of you. But, damnit...doesn't it just make you furious at times? It's the 'whaaa, whaaa' moments that irritate me the most. :p Thanks again ppls. If poking me in the eye will ensure that you won't smoke then poke away. Know that we are with you in spirit as you struggle through this quit. It will pass. It's not pretty. It should be taken as a good sign that this quit is working. You are passing through stages into becomming a non-smoker. Hold on. May I please have a go at poking somebody's eye out, as well. I had the worst time after supper. I was miserable, cranky...oh the list just goes on. Hubby and I nearly had an argument. He had a rough day at work, and then he came home to...me! Oh what fun. Anyhow, things are better now. I'm a little more relaxed and perhaps a little more reasonable.
