I can relate to the age thing too & I can't stand it anymore. I started getting them when I was 19 years old & didn't know what they were either, Now I'm 25 & I feel like this disorder has completely destroyed my happiness, my dreams, my nervous system, basically my life. I feel like I'm still stuck in 1998 alot(when this all started going on in my case..I'll never forget that year..I can't stop obsessing & remembering how everything began I get tingling in my face sometimes but not that often, I get tingling in my leg muscles especially alot lately...I had a ultrasound done today to see if I have Mitral Valve Prolapse because my heart is always beating irregular or it kinda jumps out at times I guess that's the best way to put it now I gotta wait on that....In the waiting room my arm was tingling like crazy...To top it all off right after the test was done I went to my Grandfather's gravesite today..I cried myself to death for quite a while today & my mind was going completely haywire.. By the way to the site director:I'm sorry but chronic anxiety & panic like I have does often lead to depression I'm having extreme bouts of both right now there both mixing together..I was getting all the symptoms combined at the cemetary today... The main symptom that bothers me the most is my head & my chest being tense(even right now it is by myself on the computer) dizziness &the fear of fainting . I can hardly ever stand up without feeling like I'm gonna faint. & standing in lines....FORGET IT ..Anywhere I feel like I'm trapped..I can barely even get a hair cut without panicking in the chair & wanting to leave as quick as I can...& that coming from someone who used to be obsessed with my hair & my appearance & pretty much felt like everything in my life was going great As much as I try it's like I'm staring to care less & less...alot of people that have this seem to be young on this post..I'm starting to feel like 25 is old in my case I pray everynight for everybody that suffers this disaster here & all around the world .If you're just getting panic attacks all I can say is please get professional help right away by any means necessary like I wish I would have Everything is music to me it's like my brain thinks through music it's hard to explain but

Hi all, I understand the age thing too. I'm 26 but I had my first attack when I was 15. Pretty scary! This illness seems to prey on younger people. I feel like I should be in the prime of my life and here I am wasting it because of these horrible attacks. Jessie-I also had tingling and numbness in my face and my legs. I also got this feeling like I had a hair touching my face but when I tried to brush it away, there was no hair. I had this feeling off and on for months. My legs were especially bad-I can't quite explain the feeling but they were kind of numb. I also have read these are a symptom of anxiety but like someone else said, it's best to go to your Dr. just to be sure. My doc sent me to a neurologist who said it was not a neurological problem. Hope everything works out for you. Sarah

I can relate to this topic in both ways: the age thing and the tingling sensations. I'm 24... older than you, but my attacks started at 15. I kept them a secret until I was 18 and even then I shared it with only a select few. Now that I'm 24, I'm telling everyone I know and I wish I had before. It's much less stressful, b/c you're not constantly worrying what people think... b/c it's out in the open. And I think you'll find that people will not think you're crazy, weak, or avoid you. Plus you begin to feel closer to the friends that truly stick by you. As for the tingly sensations... I've been feeling that a lot lately. Not my face (poor Jessie), at least not yet, but every day for the last 2 weeks, I've been getting tingly and weak legs. I keep feeling like I'm gonna collapse or something. But I know that it's never happened and I challenge those anxious thoughts as much as possible. I think the same applies to your tingly face/head feelings. You know now that it can't hurt you and you have to remind yourself that you now have evidence that it is not a dangerous symptom.

I have experienced many sensations during my time with panick disorder everything from blurred vision, palpitation, tingling in arms, legs, face, head, tongue. When you panic you are hypersensitive to all body sensations and the chemicals released in your body as well as the movement of blood changes and can cause many symptoms. These symptoms get magnified during panic. One thing that I read that has helped me is to focus on body function not body sensations. For instance, if I feel a sensation in an area of the body I ignore the sensation and check to see if that part of my body is functioning and so far it always is. So if you feel that sensation, see if you can move your jaw, move your head, move your arms and legs. If so, it is only a sensation. If you are worried that it is something with your brain, remember that in most cases only one side of the body is affected and usually spans down the arm and or leg and one side of the face. Neck problems can cause sensations like you describe, but usually aren't serious and can be corrected. I hope this helps you.

Hey Jessie I've had similar symptoms. The medical term for what you're feeling is paraesthesia and you definately need to have it checked out. While it may not be listed as a symptom, I think it is. I was having the numbness and tingling in my hands and legs (I kept falling down because I couldn't feel my feet). However, after 5 MRIs, an EMG, 3 orthopods, 2 neurologists, 1 chiropractor and too many xrays to count no one could find anything wrong. The neurologist said "some people are just very sensitive". Now that I've started treatment for my anxiety, the tingling is only in my finger tips. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Jessie and Italiana, welcome! I’m 22 and also know how you feel about the age thing. I’ve been having panic attacks since I was 14, didn’t know what was going on back then. Panic has only started to consume my life these last 4 or so months. Leading me seek help and learn all I can. That tingling numb feeling in your face and head could be a number of things Jessie so get it checked out by a doctor to be on the safe side. Don’t fret yet though! I have had similar sensations. Infact I had that feeling that my head had fallen asleep just today. It’s a very scary sensation indeed. Not because it hurts so much but because you feel like there is something seriously wrong or that you’re about to die. Something that’s hard to learn while you’re panicking is that the physical sensations we experience during an attack are actually not all that bad. It’s the feeling of utter doom that manipulates us and makes it hell. Those feelings you’ve described sound like ‘depersonalisation’. It’s hard to explain but it feels like you’re somehow separate from your body. You can’t control your own thoughts and it feels like you’re going crazy. It’s all part of anxiety and panic attacks. The face sensation you described, I’ve felt this too. Only when I’m having a really bad attack. Which you obviously suffered from yesterday. I hope you feel better now! It’s not easy, but you’ll never be alone in this. :) Take care.

Hey Jessie, I'm new to this place so I don't know a lot but I'm sorry you went throught that. It sounds really scary. I just wanted to let you know that I'm 17 and know how you feel about the age thing. I mean, I thought I was a kid! It's hard because you don't want to tell your friends. They'd think you were mental. Anyway, you're not alone. I hope you figure out what caused this attack and it all works out! The people on this boards seem so willing to help, I'm sure they'll give you some great advice.

hi. Im new to the forum and I just first want to say Im happy to find a place like this. My mother has panic attacks, but she doesnt have the same symptoms as i do. I've had attacks since i was 12 and they were all basically the same. Id get short of breath, dizzy, heart racing etc, until yesterday. Yesterday and (i think im crazy) my cheeks, face, jaw and back of my head felt as if they had fallen asleep. You know that prickly feeling? well, this has never happend and i looked on a lot of sites and I dont see it being a symptom of panic attacks. Has this happened to anyone else or (god forbid) does anyone know what this could be a symptom of. Im only 18 years old and sometimes i feel like Im 180...someone please tell me what face tingles mean...i statred panicing so bad that i was sedated twice at the hospital...they were none to happy about this. Im really scared. -Jessie
