Ness - I'm not as far into my quit as you are .. but I just came off of a four day HELL WEEK..seemed like a week ! I didn't think I would be able to get through it - BUT, I kept pushing myself to the limit, I made changes to my coping techniques, changes to healthy ONLY crave cart, no caffeine etc etc.. But more importantly I came here !Constantly posting, reading and re posting.. and also reminding myself that having a cigarette wasn't the answer to anything.. just kept pushing forward hoping for a better tomorrow. AND IT CAME TODAY! Please keep coming here ,, rant,, rave,, we're here for you at all times. You are doing SO well ! You should feel so proud of yourself.. :) If there's anything you need us to do for you just holler! Ness, I don't think it matters where in your quit you are; the craves can come at any time and for any reason and at any intensity. I was telling my husband that it was weird, being sick with a cold and having that feeling like the cold itself was a trigger. He said You smoked one to two packs a day for 40 years; EVERYTHING is a trigger. I said, OH.... He's right. And I think the way we look at the crave is what makes it go away. For instance, if I dwell on the crave and think good things about what the smoke "would" taste like, feel like and all that, then I'm going to be thinking about it for longer than if I remember how the smoke burned my tongue, my throat, and how it tasted like what it was, burning leaves with bunches of chemicals added. I know that when I was smoking all I wanted was to quit. And now we have!!! If you distract yourself and keep your mind busy, (posting positive feedback to others always helps me), I don't think the crave will last any length of time at all. Finally feeling better. That awful feeling stuck with me a few days, but i've finally made it through. Smoke free and grateful I did not cave. I've had some overwhelming cravings the last couple of days. Thanksgiving * Buying a new house * Work* Family issues. I've known for a long time this one was coming, but I had no idea. It's been terribly easy up until now. Usually between 60 and 90 days the second crave comes. And boy oh boy does it ever. It would be so easy to pick up a cig. I know deep down I really don't want one. I went outside to get a deep breath of fresh air and look at the stars, and fell over the sandbox. :( That even made me want one. I can't catch a break or for that matter a breath. For those who have had this intense of a crave into your quit, please advise.

My advice: Do ANYTHING you have to to get over it (except smoke, of course). Scream, yell, run in circles, punch a punching bag, break something (an object you won't regret breaking later...)..... Grab and axe and a wedge and cut me some extra firewood---that ought to take your mind off of it for awhile.... Bring you're shotgun and ammo and meet us at peteg's house. He said something about having live targets to practice on! Ness, Hey this is better late than never lol. Anyways, that was about the time I had my last major crave. Must be normal lol. Ever since 2 weeks ago I haven't had a crave since, have put things into perspective, and have finally accepted my new lifestyle with open arms. I love the fact I dont have to leave anything to have a smoke (its a non smoking state so one must leave the building anywhere to smoke). I do know I haven't been able to breath well since I quit and I did go to the doctors and foudn out my asthma has gotten worse, and you guessed it, cause of smoking. I could just shoot myself for doing this to myself. At least it was asthma and not other things. Be kind to yourself and think up a really nice reward for the heck of it. You deserve it!! Ness, Sorry you having a bad week. Take the time to get out your coping mechanisms and relaxation techniques. Do relaxation techniques before bed and ease into your sleep for a refreshed new day.
