Oh my...sounds so familiar! One question. What did the one person mean by "eye shakes"? I get littel eyeball twitches sometimes when I am trying to read and I heard the ativan can cause this.... Has anyone ever had their eyeballs move suddenly when reading something?

Wow! It really helps to read everyone's symptoms. It seems that my attacks always start when I feel like I can't breathe. My typical symptoms are: winded/tightness in chest/can't breathe rapid heartbeat tingling/clammy hands numbing in legs and feet fear of death fear of passing out out of reality feelings

I posted a narrative, when I probably should've posted a more straightforward list of my symptoms: - tight feeling in my throat/hard to swallow - persistent hacking cough - tingling all over - unexplainable aches and pains, everwhere - fear of certain death (and constantly checking symptoms that would fit this feeling) - depersonalization - fear of doing something crazy (like scream out in public for help or release from this hell) - nausea - lack of appetite - acid stomach/burping to relieve it - fear of being alone (in case something should happen to me, who would take me to the hospital?) - pain in my ribs - heavyness in my legs, tightness in my stomach.

Hi everyone... I'm new to the forum. I have been dealing with panic/anxiety since at least 1995. It's come back in a big way over the last two or three weeks. The post I replied to is similar to how I feel right now. I went to the ER the day after christmas, because I'd been having squeezing pains in my left arm, shoulder, and the left side of my chest for several days, and finally couldn't take anymore. I have high blood pressure, so I was doubly concerned. I had an EKG, a blood test, and was told it was likely a pinched nerve from a recent bout of coughing. I think that coughing was panic related, and the medicine I took for it (Sudafed Severe Cold) helped the cough, but likely led to the recent bout of panic. The other day I was playing with a neighborhood dog, and she licked me on my face and on my arms where I had a few cuts that hadn't healed. I took a nap, and woke up to a full bout of depersonalization, and haven't really recovered from the ensuing panic. I have obsessed that the dog, whose health seems fine, could be a rabies carrier, and I almost went to the health dept. to get shots. My doctor told me the symptoms I attributed to possible rabies (and a sure death if it was) really were signs of panic, and I've confirmed that. It doesn't completely soothe me, but I feel a little better. Now I only think every few hours (instead of every five minutes) that I will soon be dead. :gasp:

Bec, I've taken Ativan on and off as I needed it for about 2 years. It works for me just fine and it's a low dose. No side effects other then a little drowsy at first. Sometimes I go a week or more and don't take one, lately I have to take one every day before work so I can drive all night.

Hey guys. I hear a lot of you talking about derealization and depersonalization during panic attacks but could somebody please tell me how this feels to them. I've been doing a lot of web research, mostly to convince myself that I'm not going crazy, and a lot of articles talk about racing thoughts during panic attacks relating to work or finances or something like that. My racing thoughts don't relate to anything. They seem so unfamiliar and I don't recognize them. Almost like being in a dream. And when its all over with, I can't remember anything. This really concerns me. Also, my doctor gave me ativan today. Could somebody please tell me if this medicine has worked for them. Thanks in advance!

Hi there my name is michelle and i have been dealing with panic attacks for 8 months now ever since i stopped nursing my youngest child. When they started i thought i was dying of a brain tumour or something. It started with feeling dizzy and unattached to my body, everthing just seemed strange. and with thinking more about it the panic got worse. After paying big bucks and getting a MRI done the doctors said that its panic. I was just wondering if any of you have had your symptons last all the time, not just for what they could call an "attack" the symptom that bothers me the most is this feeling of unreality , it just seems like everything dosent look the same, or looks strange almost like a dream. these feelings just dont go away everyday all the time , I keep hoping to wake up one morning and have everthing "normal" again. I have started paxil now and it has helped with the really serious attacks but i stiil have this unreality. ever since the paxil i have also started getting really weird dreams, i dont know if anyone else can relate? anyways it's just nice to talk to someone about it thanks for listening sorry for the long message. :)

I notice that when I am nervous about something, my nervousness leads to a rapid and "hard" heartbeat and then from that I get "wobbly" legs and feel like I cannot walk. I'm very lightheaded. This is a very scary feeling that I cannot shake for some time. When I stand in line at the grocery store, etc. I start to feel it coming on. By the time that happens, it it too late. The feeling has overcome my body. I am looking forward to getting through this and getting on with my life -- this session of "panic" is the worst I have ever had. It has now prevented me from doing almost everything I used to do just a couple of months ago. I have now become "agoraphobic".
