Hi Garm, One thing I learned from a support group was a way to suppress the palpations. When you start to experience them, make yourself cough real hard a few times, or you bear down really hard, (ok this part is going to make you bust out laughing, but cant describe it any other way, than was told to us)as a woman bearing down during childbirth, or the bearing down when you having to give that extra push per se during a bowel movement. Ok, this will be the laughing stock of the posts today. But I find it does work. Trish

I don't smoke a whole lot. Maybe more than i should (about a half a pack a day). But regardless, the heart papitations which only seem to go away when i actually think about them are annoying beyond anything else. And i don't think it is the cigarettes which aggravate them, because when i used to smoke about a pack a day, i never noticed them/had them. And as for the hollow chest feeling. It feels sometimes like i am made of nothing. My voice echoes inside of my chest and it feels like there are no organs in my chest. I've only had it 3 times, so i guess it isn't anything horrible.

hey I talk get palpitations, no pain or anything it just feels like my heart is fluttering then it quits, it is mostly when i am idle. Does this sound the same as everyone elses symptoms? Is it anything to worry about?

OMG Garm!!!...Just recently I have been having exactly the same thing happen, I just didn't know how to explain it...however I mainly get the palpitations when lying down (or perhaps thats when I notice it more) I feel my heart beating in my throat....very scary, but as we all know..."I'm not having a heart attack, it's not dangerous....blah blah blah" yeah we may know it but believing it is another thing :)

Hi Lisa and Losing, Hey we have some good goals we are working on to take more triggers out of our life!!! Kudos to us!! To answer you Lisa, I've had panic attacks for 13 yrs, but not continually, I was full blown, agoraphobic. After about 5 years of going thru the routine of doctors, cardiologists, blood tests, etc.etc. I sought a specialist, I had tried a few other doctors, one didnt do cognitive therapy, etc. So I moved on till I found one, that I absolutely loved and put alot of trust and faith into him. He put me on an additional medication, in conjunction with the benzo my family doctor had me on. After about 6 months I was driving again, and no longer agoraphobic. Im back here now, because I make the worst mistake of trying to doctor myself, since I was panic free for 3 years, and thought I didnt need my medication. But I relapsed within 4 months and was like having the first panic attack again. So... Im back on the medicine, slowly getting a increase in dosage, setting goals for myself, finding this support group, and will never go off my medicine again, once I reach that stage I had before. I had my life back, and I want it back again !! Trish

I agree with most in regards to the palpitations.. They got so bad that my doctor had me wear a holster heart monitor to record my normal activies during 48 hours. Fortunately the results were normal. So I take it that this is just one of the hundreds of symptoms for people like us. Just know that you are not alone ;). I've had to cut back on caffeen as well.. none after 5pm and I do smoke but I try not to a couple of hours before bed time.

Tish, I understand caffein and cigarrets...I now drink half caffeign and half decaf---and as long as I am not drinking alcohol I smoke about five gigarrets a day. I think I am doing Okay. How long have you been dealing with panic attacks? Do you work? Do you have a handle on these attacks? Lisa

Hi Lisa, I sure do, and yes it aggravates it. Next on my list of things to quit. Im currently weaning myself off caffeine slowly, too quickly leads to major headaches. So I drink no decaf coffee, sodas or preferrably camomille tea (no caffine kind) at night. I am though sitting out chewing gum, and putting my pack of cigarettes away from me,(keeping them off my desk, or table next to me, so Im not constantly just reaching for them) and timing myself to only smoke so many in a time period. Therefore, after Im off the caffine, I will quit the cigarettes next. Like with everything, I have to work on one at a time. Trish

Hello, I like Trish do not get the hollow chect, however I do get palpitations. I was born with pvc's and this is a common condition as well. I do get the palpitations and I believe that it has to do with anxiety and I do smoke. Do either of you smoke? Lisa

Cant speak for the hollow feeling, but yes I do have episodes of palpations throughtout the day, but I also was born with a minor heart murmur, nothing uncommon to lots of people. And chain smoking will make it worse. (Meaning feeling the palpataions more) Do you smoke alot?
