Almost 3 months and wondering why I quit

for 18 år siden 0 42 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Fleur, For me money is the motivation. Everyday I log in here and my quit meter tells me how much money I haven't spent on cigarettes. My health is also a serious motivation as well. I am 54 years old and allready have had 2 angioplasty's done. I know that smoking is a contributing factor to that. So, while there are a lot of people who smoke for years and years and more years without a problem, not all of us are that privileged. Especially in my case where there is a long history of heart disease in my family. I want to do everything I can to lengthen my life. So, maybe it won't work, but at least I will have made the effort. That's what keeps me from picking up another cigarette. I hope you stay smoke free as well. Yes Fluer...I quit a week ago. But I used the summer night patio excuse too. I love my summers smoking and watching the sunset...hell I even bought a new patio set to smoke on. My life arranged by my habit. Now I sit outside and breath, deep breaths. You know why??? Cuz I can breath now and it feels wonderful. One day, hour, minute at a time and today I choose not to smoke.

How am I doing with my quit? I feel like crap. I sure am proud of myself for sticking with it, though. I was a 3 pack a day smoker, and just up and quit one day and now here I am discovering all sorts of things about myself and my family that were hidden in a smoke cloud before, and i'm not so sure I wanted to know all of this.. TOO MUCH INFORMATION! LOL Hey, don't fool yourself into thinking you enjoyed sitting on the porch and smoking in the summer time. You maybe enjoyed the summer time, and you maybe enjoyed sitting on th porch, and you maybe enjoyed haivng company to sit on the porch and relax with you.. but having and adiction there with you was not enjoyable at all. Just remember that you chose to quit, and that you wanted to quit, and that you have nothing to be missing now. Yes, life is changing drastically, and that's scary as hell.. but, we're going to find that next summer is going to have new emotions and new habbits, and new joys, and it's going to all be without an adiction to manipulate and control it. The next time that you see someone sitting on their porch "enjoying" a cigarette.. smile.. they want to be where you are, not the other way around. They sure do wish they could quit. It's also good to get the summer out of the way.. if you had quit in another season, you would have gotten to summer and wanted to throw away all the time you had invested in your quit for some porch time, and that would suck.. it's good that it's over. Hey Fluer, I don't thik there is any shame in asking the doctor for something to help you sleep. Sometimes the body gets used to not sleeping on schedule and needs some help getting back on track. I am of the understanding that some people need less sleep after quitting, and that they may just -think- they are not sleeping well, so look at that possibility too. As far as when it will be over - it's different for everyone. I am having a particularily hard time today myself, and didn't sleep well last night. most o the time I am sleeping far more sound than I was when I smoked. As far as the family not recognising you because of your mood.. i am struggling with that myself. I just found last night that i wrote the anger I was feleing towards my husband out on paper and then after I wrote it, i thought "I need to say something to him about this - this is awefull" and when i went to say something, it was gone. It REALLY does help to get those negative thoughts out of your head. When you put them on paper, they seem to stick there... and far better than they do when you put thm on a computer screen. Also, I am not alone in finding that since I quit, I am far less tollerant of bad behavior and have found myself demanding more out of people. Now, just because someone is not behaving up to standards, does not give us excuse to be abusive. It's up to us now to look what we've uncovered under all of that smoke. Underneath is poor stress management, and someone who didn't speek up for herself... it's important to learn to be asertive and not agessive now though. There are soem great threads on anger in here.. look in the common questions section for this thread on anger.. it's very very helpful. Also - write down your reasons for quitting..and make them for reasons other than for your health. We all have an unkle joe who died at 104 as a 5 pack a day smoker, and not many of us beleive the health risks stuff we've been lectured about forever. Qyuit so that you'll smell better, and quit so that you'll teach your children how to handle stress without an adiction, and quit so that you won't be a slave to a weed, and quit so that you won't be a junkie, and quit so that you quit burning your cloths, and quit so that you can stop having th

Fleur and Jojo I've got my eye on you two !!!!!! Some ideas to keep your hands busy; Take straws and cut them in 2 or 3 and breathe in the fresh air I used to chew on them too. I drink 4 bottles of water a day (8 glasses) also if you like cinnamon, buy cinnamon sticks and suck on them there 's a hole on the bottom. Eat mints, sunflower seeds. Have a great smokefree day. Keep on fighting the good fight one day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 77 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,164 Amount Saved: $308 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 5 Mins: 34 Seconds: 46
