Hi LeoLibra: You have a GREAT WONDERFUL history of knowing your strength and your courage. I know you don't feel this in your heart right now because your body is physically challenging you making your mind weak. You are forgetting to congratulate yourself on such a great job that you did. Your focus is only on your Miss Take. Remember your strength, know that it is within you, think about the love you have for yourself and cigs are a man made product wanting you to give into it. You have had the fight before. You have the fight in YOU. DO IT. Bring that fighting spirit back. Begin from the beginning. You are willing so bring that Leo Lion up to the gate! We ALL KNOW YOU CAN DO IT! Free Me!!! Hi to all, just wanted to get some advice and suggestions from someone out there about this situation. I quit smoking after 5 years on Dec 31, 2005 after 2 weeks of being 'quit', I ended up smoking a cig because I allowed my pride get me back 'in'. I went to a cousin's house (who also smokes) because I thought I could handle it. They were all smoking around me and the smoke was killing my air, but soon I got used to it and started having bad cravings. Later that night, I could stand it no more and so my cousin gave me one of hers. It bothered me the whole time I was smoking it. One because my body wasnt used to it anymore and two for morale reasons. I felt guilty the next day, but 2 days later....scraped enough loose change to purchase an off brand pack. Im also a truck driver and so, soon as I went back on the road after 3 days, I got my advance and quicky bought another pack. Its been non-stop since January. I'm no longer a truck driver because I have a pinched nerve in my back and now have to stay out of the 'big rig' for a while, but Ive gone back to college but am unemployed and seeking disability for my back. This gives me too much time to sit around and smoke cigs...which is what I do now. Please help me with advice and suggestions as to how to get my mind away from smoking with all this free time on my hands. I know about getting away from the scenarios but Im at home and so what am I to do??? All help and advice is greatly appreciated. No excuses. I am on disability, went back to school, earned three master degrees and found quitting to be very difficult. It was difficult when there were school breaks, because then I was bored. It was difficult when school was in, because then I was stressed out. It was difficult when I went to the clinic. Everyone smokes outside and the psychiatrists don't seem to ever weigh in. It was stressful to quit because I had no money. I could never quit while broke, the logic went, because I would only be quitting because I am broke. As soon as I got money, I would smoke again. Well, guess what, I couldn't quit when I had money either. Why bother. I could afford them then. I worried about my kitty getting asthma. I just always made sure a window was opened and I bought an Ionic Breeze. I felt stupid. People were asking how someone with so much education could smoke? I told them I started early. I was bothered by the number of stars who had quit smoking, but who died anyway and said, Why bother? It took me a year to figure out that a dignified death might be worth having. I smoked in bed, bad back ha? A friend of mine yelled out, Brenda, you're not smoking in bed are you? Of course, I yelled back, No. Never occurred to me that I could fall asleep, especially when on meds and burn us up. One of the wonderful things about smoking is that you will always have an excuse to smoke. The junkie will help you make your list. Mine today told me to dip snuff. Last week, mine told me that I could not quit smoking around my friends, because they are all nonsmokers. In order to quit smoking, I had to find some smokers to hang around. Mine even went so far as to tell me that I am so diligent about getting physicals that, unlike my father, I'd never die of lung cancer. I would be saved. Fall for none of it. As someone already said, One is too many and one-thousand are not enough. Remember: How hard each day is to get. Value it. Leolibra, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to quit! Start preparing for your quit using our quit program. It will help you develop a plan to quit. Also take some time to look back on your last quit and pull out the strategies that worked for you. You should also try to pinpoint the weaknesses in your last quit and find ways to fix them. Distractions: * Take a shower * Read a book * Play a computer game, do a crossword puzzle * Rent a movie * Go for a walk * Do some cleaning * Listen to music or learn to play an instrument * Cook, try new receipes * Drink water, chew gum, eat candy, chew on a toothpick, hold a straw * Paint a wall, redecorate * Explore your neighbourhood, town or city: go to the beach, a flea market, tour a beer factory, go hiking * Take up a new hobby: photography, golf, gardening Hope this gives you some ideas. Keep us posted, Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi leolibra, Smoking is an addiction so we must remember N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) No matter how long you have been quit, if you introduce nicotine back into your system your brain will remember it. Thus, it will begin to cry out (crave) for it's next fix. But as you know, one is never enough, one thousand is never enough. Check out the quit program <----- on the left if you haven't already done so and the answer to your last question has been answered by you. :) You can read and post here to fill you spare time. Kick off your shoes and stay awhile. Hi, Leolibra. Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. Like N2k said, go through this site's Online Quit Program. There's a ton of good information and tips there. Boredom is a real quit-killer, just like stress. In fact, IMO, it's just another type of stress. I suggest you find something to do with your hands other than just holding time. Maybe you could take up some hobby making things, wood carving, drawing, ??? Just tossing out blind ideas here. You're going back to college; what are you studying? Maybe some on-line research into your new field? You should probably stay away from smoky situations for a few months. Smoking is an addiction, just like alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. You wouldn't expect a newly-quit alcoholic to go into a bar or an ex-junkie to go into a crack house. Stay away from smoking situations. You said you got used to it and then started having cravings. The second-hand smoke reawaked the addiction process in your brain. Stay close, Leolibra. Read much, post often. You can do this.
