You might feel like you are relaxed after you take Xanax but it is not a muscle relaxant it is a Benzodiazepine, which is a (CNS) central nervous system depressant and acts as a tranquilizer. It is one of the more addictive benzo€™s and isn€™t suppose to be taken for longer than 8 months so be careful when taking it.

Hi I also took paxil cr when my attacks first came back and it did not work for me either in fact it made my attacks worse I had them for a whole weekend and the attacks never ended also i lost 9 pounds in two days from it. I now take zoloft and xanax the zoloft works wonders no more attacks at all. The xanax I only take if I feel that I'm too anxious or just can't make it through the day which isn't very often thanks to the zoloft. If I do take the xanax it calms me right down in like 5 minutes, it is a muscle relaxer so it will calm you down. well good luck shannal

I found that Paxil Cr didn€™t get rid of my panic attacks either; I waited a month to see if it would start working and then stopped taking it.

Hi. I really don't think the Paxil is working very well on me. I am on Paxil CR and I still have panic attacks all the time and I have been on it for about four months. I panic most around my period time/why I have no clue but that's the worst time of the month for me. (hehe worst time of the month.) Anyway I don't like but hey I'm afaid of trying something new because I have been off and on it for about three years. I go on it I gain weight I come off I lose it back forth back forth........ Anyway I don't like!

Rivotril is a Benzodiazepine, so I would think it would have a similar effect of Xanax. I haven€™t taken Xanax, but take Diazepam before I think I will have an attack to calm me so my attack is less or I don€™t have one. It is also a Benzodiazepine so I think they all work similarly. I don€™t know a lot about atenolol other than it€™s a beta blocker whereas Paxil is an SSRI. So maybe switching to an ssri along with a Benzodiazepine might help you, but you€™d have to talk to your doctor about that. I would be careful with Paxil, I purposely stopped taking it and there are a lot of people on this site that have negative feelings about paxil as well. Maybe switch to Xanax or some other Benzodiazepine and no other medication. But once again, it€™s something you should talk over with your doctor.
