Today is not such a great day for me. I'm more tired than usual and a little down. No particular reason just a down kinda overall feeling. Finances are short so rewarding myself is not a option and only adds to my depression. I do feel good about not smoking and I know that is not a option as well. It's hard to get out of a rut sometimes. Nicodemon is trying to tell me he will make me feel better and I can shoot him down but I'm worried about being around other smokers in the future when I feel like this. I will be visiting a very heavy smoker in a couple of weeks and hope I wont grab "just one" when no one is looking. Its been more than 30 days and I'm coughing more now than I ever did before. The coughing has just started and I find this to be a bit puzzling at this point in my quit. When I first quit I had very little coughing but the last 2 days or so I have had little coughing spells off and on through-out the day. I drinking plenty of fluids and the weather is very comfortable right now. Have an appt with doc in couple of days for routine follow-up. Will post again later. I may be overly cautious, Mookie, but I think it is too early in your quit to visit a friend who is a heavy smoker! :gasp: For me, that would be a huge trigger. There's something about that camaraderie of smoking together. I wouldn't worry about snagging a smoke while her back is turned as much as I would chatting, seeing her smoke, craving....it's just too easy and tempting to light up. Can't you put it off for awhile? Just talk on the phone? In my opinion this is a tougher scenario than a bar. Something to think about. Someone on the site once said your quit is like a newborn and you must cherish and protect it in the beginning....the quit is your first priority. Hi mookie, As long as you have that attitude "smoking in not an option", you should be okay. I understand your concern about visiting the heavy smoker. I've stolen my share of cigs when people weren't looking. give a phone call and ask for the cigs to be out of sight..in a drawer, in the person's pocket; but not just laying around. Be prepared before you leave the house that day. You are doing Great! Congratulations on 35 days. Hi, Mookie. Congratulations on 35 smoke-free days. Like Josie said, rewards can be free. Some of the best are. Are there things you like to do, nearby places you like to visit? A park, shopping mall, downtown, library, or someplace just out of town? Any favorite authors or magazines you don't subscribe to (available at the libarary). Rewards not only distract, but they also battle the depression at its source and help in the physical healing process. Think of them as medicine. The coughing is not unexpected at your stage of quit. You are right in seeing your doctor about it, but it is probably either your body cleaning out the gunk or a touch of bronchitis (not a diagnosis, just an observation). Your doctor will know for sure. Don't worry today about visiting a heavy smoker in a couple of weeks. At your quit stage, a couple of weeks is a looooong time. Your quit won't be the same then as it is now. Right before the time comes, post about it and get suggestions from the board members. You're doing great, Mookie. Mookie, This is normal and will pass. Rewards don't have to cost anything! Make a list of rewards and choose from them every time you reach a milestone or even when you need a pick me up. You may also need some you time, so pamper yourself for the day and get the rest you need. Start the next day fresh and see the difference.
