Just a word of caution here: Always check with the pharmacist before combining over-the-counter meds with other meds you might be taking.

there are some over the counter sleeping pills you can try too. Maybe you should keep some on hand. Eventually your body won't be able to function and you will have to get some sleep. Hang in there!:)

Hello Sandy, I also have this problem sometimes. Im positive its just a part of my anxiety. I go through phases were it happens alot and then times when it doesnt happen at all. Like last night and the night before I got no sleep at all I was waking up every 30 min. I would be all hot and sweaty and feel like I cant breath. Then I would take the covers off and then I would get cold but with them on I was too hot. Then when I finally fell asleep I would wake up again. I also get very restless always tossing and turning. I hope that this helped you a little bit by knowing your not the only one who has this problem. Good Luck, Melanie

Hi. I've having been struggling with that "Panic induced insomnia" for two weeks now. That is my term for it not a medical term. That is how my Panic atttacks started in 98 too. I fall asleep for @ 20min. then "BANG". It's like someone just shouted my name. I am awake and feel like I need to run. I often wind up pacing the house for awhile, changing my nightclothes (cause I feel there must be some reason for discomfort), I change blankets,change the noises in my room (I usually like listen to a fan or something with a low hum), change the lighting, change my pillow case, try sleeping in a recliner, do a household chore that I felt I should have done before bed, try to sleep again... 20 min. and "BANG" awake Each time this happens the Panic increases, because as morning gets closer I start worrying about how am I going to cope with toddler and other things in my life if I have had no sleep. My doctor gave sleeping pills, Ambien, they are working. I fall asleep and stay asleep. But now all day I worry about when that ten day supply runs out. I think I am become Psychologically addicted to the sleeping pills because I have an intense fear of the night without them.

Hi Sandy, I don't know if it is "normal" but I do know I have felt that way. When I was feeling panick alot, I hated when my husband would say he was going to bed, cause number one, I was now alone if I stayed up, and number two, I was waking up now and then like you say, racing heart and short of breath. I would even ask him "Do you feel like there is no air in here" but he didn't. My counselor said, and from what I have read, anxiety can do that to you too. What I did was buy a couple of great relaxation cds and listed with headphones. I did this everyday for a couple of weeks and now rarely need or even want to. When I was really bad, I would even wake up about an hour and a half when the cd was over, but instead of panicking like "great now what do I do," I would just hit play again, and once again would drift off. Give it a try, but most of all, don't worry too much if it is anxiety. I say this meaning, you have been to the doctor, or at least know you are definitely during the day struggling with anxiety. is it normal when you falling asleep at night to feel dizzy and as you falling asleep to wake with your heart racing and feeling as though you can't breathe...i feel that every night and hate the thought of going to sleep. it scares the hell out of me. is this normal with anxiety...anyone else with this experience?
