I have been Paxil free for 2 1/2 months now... In the past 4 years I have triedto wean off Paxil 3 times and just could not. Each try ended with the "zaps" dizziness and quite frankly the withdrawl of Paxil was so much like a severe Panic Attack that would last for hours that I always gave up popped a Paxil to end it. This time I did It!!! I'm off and past the withdrawl effects (You know the withdrawl that the Dr. told Paxil does not have!!! ) I did it this way.... My normal dose was 20mg/ once a day First- I took 15mg/ once a day for 1 week Second- 10mg / once a day for about 2 days --then the withdrawl syptoms began.... so changed my plan and this is very important... *** I went back to 15mg but took 5mg/ three times a day spacing them out for 1 week***** Third- I cut out the middle dose and now took 5mg in the AM and 5mg in the PM for 1 week Fourth- I stopped the AM dose (because night time was always my worst time for panic) I took 5mg in PM only for one week Then None.... Very little withdrawl this way. Did experience headache off and on. *** I was still taking 15mg of BuSpar at bedtime while I decreased the Paxil..... Then as soon as the Paxil was gone, I felt the BuSpar was making me feeling more dizzy, so I stopped that too. Now I have beun to use BuSpar as needed because I have of course begun to have anxiety attacks occassionally. So far I have been able Cognitively keep the major Panic at bay but it is getting harder.

I was on Paxil for a year. Withdrawal was hard. It took me too times to quit. The first time I went down in dose to quit I had all the classic symptoms of paxil withdrawal. It was already a stressful time so I went back on and side I will deal with this later. Two months later I said it's time to try and quit again. I was prepared for the worse. Funny thing happened though, I didn't get many withdrawal symptoms! I don't know why but the second time was much easier. All I can really tell you is take your time! Go down in dose slowly and if it gets to be to much to handle go back on. No need to get made at yourself either. But it can be done. Good luck! Matt

Yeah, I'm weaning off... My regular Paxil dosage is 20mg, and I've been taking 10mg this week. I'm getting aggitated, dizy, and I dont like people touching me. Its like I'm on a the verge of a panic attack. Thanks for your input!

Hi gotaquestion, I have never been on Paxil but I was on Zoloft for years and I think they are in the same family? If you wean yourself slowly, at least for me, there were no withdrawls whatsoever. Now I mean really WEAN. My doc said to me (I was on 50 mgs a day) "Ok, take half for a week then stop." I read a book and heard a radio program on how wrong that was especially for someone who had been taking as long as I had. This author said to slowly shave the pills which I did. I mean literally shave with a razor. I wish I remembered the book title. It wasn't specific at how much but it just made sense that as much as I wanted to STOP now, I had to do it over a period of a couple of months in order to not feel any withdrawl. So I would say each week, I shaved a little more than the last, till I was down to about and 8th of the pill and started forgetting to take at all and the third time I had forgotten for two days, decided to stop. Just letting you know what I was told and what I learned on my own. Start by seeing what your doctor says. I know all agree, you don't just stop. Good luck. Bonnie

How long did you go through withdrawal, and from the experience how long do you think it takes for your body to come off its dependence for paxil?
