Tallulahmay, congrats on your accomplishment so far, you are doing a great job, and what a great attitude you have. I think a lot of us are shocked to see not only the junkie thinking we had as addicts (all the subconscious lies we believed), but the stinkin' thinking we had as well. It is like we have to learn how to truly love ourselves again. In my opinion, as an addict I did not fully love myself or others. Would you encourage your child to smoke? No. Why? Because you love them. So why did we smoke? Why did we start? If we really loved ourselves, would we have started? I don't know, but I know one thing for sure and that is that I am finishing up a lesson on truly loving myself. I think this lesson will help me cope with emotions better, stick to personal boundaries, respect myself more and make my chance of relapse much less. I really enjoyed your post talullahmay. Talullahumay, Have you given any thought to keeping a journal? You're on the right track! Keep challenging those negative thoughts! Being quick to anger is normal during the beginning of your quit. Did you smoke when you were stressed? If so I challenge you to start thinking of alternatives to this habit. We are proud to see you standing strong at 11 days! Hi, Ann. Congratulations on 11 smoke-free days. That is truly awesome. :) The emotional turmoil of quitting is, I think, the hardest to cope with. Right now your brain's and body's chemistries are totally whacked out from the lack nicotine. Everything is having to readjust and one result is the emotional swings. The swing into depression is, IMO, the worst. Right now you need to focus on rewarding yourself for remaining smoke-free. When you smoked, the nicotine was a reward. That needs to be replaced with non-smoking rewards. They don't have to cost much, or anything at all. Whatever gives you a warm-and-fuzzy or makes you smile is a reward. I agree with everyone else that you are a remarkably strong person with a great attitude. Keep up the good quit, Ann.
