Waking up Anxious

for 22 år siden 0 90 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi there, I wake up in the middle of the night, too, and panic and feel like I'm going to die, but then I'm ok in the morning. I blame it on my current comfort food/pre-Christmas diet, though. I'm better if I eat less but regularly. I find if I eat large meals late in the day I wake up in the night and feel bloated, which is kind of similar to a panic, the chest feels tight and you can't breathe properly. I know I should stick to a healthier diet but find it very hard at the moment with the long dark evenings and all the party food around. Marianne

Interesting to note that eating triggers your anxiety. :) For me it's other way round, if I do not eat and feel hungry it starts getting panicky. At that point I think of being hypoglosimic(low on blood sugar) and that could hurt my brain or something (Which apparently does not happen :) ) I also wake up in middle of night sometimes getting the same feeling which you are describing. Ususaly when this happens next day is more anxious (Like today I had same feeling). Looks like common point is getting anxious before or after food (Some inner fears are acting up one way or other? In my case I think I have figured out whenever I eat stomachful this anxious feeling goes away, so may be I am afraid of being low on blood sugar or something) Does anyone has observed simmilar things about food?

its different for me... I wake in the middle of the night for no apparent reason ... just a twisted joke my body is playing on me where I think I'm dying and I'm not. My body usually wins, and I wind up making a fool of my self. I guess I am lucky that I start the day off normal. I usually wake up feeling great, and as long as I dont eat I stay feeling fine until the evening. I would like to eat though.. do any of you have that problem? where eating seems to trigger the panic response in your body? I am not a dieter or whatever...I am comfortable withmyself... its strange that eating would trigger a panic response..i could care less if I am fat or not...

Sorry Anne-Marie The Clonzapam is prescribed PRN. It is .5mg and I take 1/2 as needed. (So two .5mg or 4 -1/2s a day) My question was that I didnt know when to take it. i.e. Do I wait for a panic attack? I have general anxiety so I dont really get them. Do I take it when I get trembly? When I get nervous? How nervous? etc. Michelle

Sorry Anne-Marie...I assumed that the clonazepam was prescribed prn since Michelle was questioning whether to take it or not. However, when I was prescribed it the doctor told me to try to take it 4 times a day to avoid having an attack even though I could take it as needed. My script also said I could take 1/2 or one tablet every 4 hours as needed, so I guess the prescription differs according to the doc's experience with the particular medication. Of course none of us can give advice on that more than what our own experience has been with a particular drug and we've seen that the reaction greatly differs. Ioana

I would caution people against asking for medication advice, unless stipulating that your doctor has ordered it as needed. To discuss this or to give advice in any other context is not recommended, as it may go against the prescribed therapy. Thanks everyone. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Dear Michelle, I would try to take half of the clonazepam or even a quarter of it. This may give you just the little help you need and it might be just the idea that you took something that would help you relax. I was told that this is not a good idea (they call it avoidance) but I try to keep busy when I'm anxious and it helps keep my mind off. Sure when I'm done with the chores the panic comes back but for me it works short term. Don't forget to nap when the baby naps and if the clonazepam makes you really tired you might want to talk to your doctor. At one point I used to take Buspar and it was just perfect for taking the edge off without making me sleepy. Of course if you take the clonazepam on a regular basis the side effects are going to subside. However, I don't advocate this since it is addictive. Plus...how could you ever feel anxious with a 2 year old around? LOL I got two of them (18mos) and sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode if I have to get one more baby off the dining room table! Good luck! Ioana

Michelle, Mornings are the worst for me too ! As soon as I open my eyes...I have butterflies in my stomach and I feel nervous. I think it's because I know I have a whole day ahead of me and I worry if I'll be able to cope with everything. I started taking Paxil about two weeks ago and I think it's starting to work. I feel I'am calmer and a lot less emotional. BUT...every morning, I still feel really anxious. So, I decided this morning to take half a XANAX and it really helped ! I felt this calm feeling and I was able to get me girls ready for school. I really don't like taking meds but I was at the point that I didn't want to leave my house. My husband finds it hard to undestand what I'am going through ! The first week with Paxil was so hard... I was sick all day. Today's a much better day for me...yesterday was hard ! I guess we have to find ways to relax. It's good to know I'am not the only one who feel more anxious in the morning ! Take care !

Hi All :) I am still waking up anxious every morning. I seem to wake suddenly and already start to worry and get anxious before I am even up. It was causing me nausea and vomiting but the breathing exercises seem to have helped somewhat. I wake around 6am and come downstairs and watch TV and try to relax myself. I sometimes feel trembly. I try to eat something by 730am so that I can take my meds. (Prozac 10mg) I have been taking my meds for 10 days now. I am not sure if I should take my clonzapam (.5mg) to try and relax or just stick with the breathing. The breathing just takes the edge off, and I still have some trembling. The clonzapam makes me tired and I have a 2 year old. Anyone feel like this in the morning? Any suggestions? Michelle
