Chris, day 3 is a tough one - I agree. I've quit for long periods before (long story about my failings) and my experience is that the first week is worst and then slowly it tapers off. My coping mechanisms mostly have to do with denying myself very little of anything I might want to eat, not pushing myself to work too hard and most of all, excersizing. I have excersized twice a day for the last three days. Excersize, for me, is sort of "reboots" my craving for smoking almost like sleep reboots the brain (knits up the ragged sleeves of care). If you at all like to excersize, I suggest you give that a try as often as you can during the first month of quitting. You also did probably the smartest thing of all, which is to come here for support and ideas. You are doing great. I know you can do this Chris! ME! Yep, those days are probably the hardest. When you are stressed, the craving is understandable. When the days go well and there is little craving, it's understandable. The hardest are perhaps the days when things go well and your urges to smoke are overwhelming! Be careful at those times---that is when it's the most tempting to smoke (cost me a few quits in the past!). Three days is commendable! Keep up the great job, Chris! You can do it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,069 Amount Saved: $328 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 6 Mins: 13 Seconds: 23

Chris, I did the patches, but from what I hear is that the very worst days are 2 and 3. Day 4 -7 aren't a bundle of laughs, but are supposed to be better Hope this helps Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 247 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,431 Amount Saved: 1852.5 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 7 Mins: 14 Seconds: 26

Hi Chris, welcome to this site! Are you using any NRT or are going Cold Turkey? They say that on the 3rd day (if you don't use any NRT) the last nicotine will leave your body, and that's the reason why this is the hardest day for many people. Taking deep breaths helped me a lot and I used to try to think positive thoughts about what was going on in my body. Instead of feeling poor for myself and giving in on thoughts about how good it would feel to have a cigaratte, I thought about how great it was for my body to get rid of all the chemicals caused by all the cigarattes I smoked. Hang in there, you are doing great and you can do this if you really want! Hang in there Chris33. Day three was a rough one for me. I sat in the dark, on the computer at SSC, away from all human beings. LOL My husband occasionally threw chocolate in at me. It DOES get better, really. You are doing fantastic!! Day 3 was my hardest day, but you know no one ever died from withdrawal. You can do this and you are doing wonderful. It is worth it and you are going to feel so much better and be so proud of you for doing this. I am coming up to 1 1/2 years and I feel better than I have in years. No it was NOT easy, but it is WORTH it!! Thanks for the support everybody, I made it through and all is much better now... Sun, Not using any NRT's so I guess you could say cold turkey but I'm using Chantix that was prescribe by my doctor. If on the third day the nicotine leaves the body then boy did I have a bunch leaving me today..... :)
