Hi Beth, I know how you feel, I'm supposed to go to a party in three weeks' time to meet an old friend, which would involve a flight, and I just can't do it. Don't know what scares me more, meeting the friend and all the social expectations etc, or the flight... Anyway, just wanted to say, you write: > More ridiculously, i'm afraid that i'll chicken out, > and keep doing this, and be single FOREVER! I'm only > 23, i should be having healthy relationships!! Says who? You're you're own person! You don't have to do anything! You stay single or you meet someone when it's right for you, but there's no law to say you have to become Ma Walton or else there is something wrong with you! Marianne

Beth..too bad things didn't work out for you andthe weekend date. But he does sound like a nice person and good friend. If youget the chance to tak to him in length or see him for awhile, I wouldn't hide your PA's from him. He sounds like the kind that would totally understand and give you support along the way. Even if it doesn't develop beyond friendship, you will have a truly good one in him, who you can turn to for a helping hand when and if things get rough. That's what we're all searching for, isn't it? And with someone you know and trust is the best plae to start. Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, but things get me down now and then too, and with trying to get my smoke quit started again, is so hard and a priority with me right now. Feeling very depressed about what I lost in my quit and want to get back to it asap. LUV FOR NOW, and post often. Reading them really helps. LUV, SUZY. :)- for Beth.... :( - for me.

Alas, the date never took place, its been postponed indefinitely. Not my fault though, things didn't work out. I was tied up, he had to work late, it ended up being too late for me to leave town. Phew!

HA! Yeah, i guess i could have provided a few more details. This guy is a friend of mine, has been for a few years. I actually dated him briefly in the fall, but it didn't work out b/c of a problem with one of his roommates. So, this is our second go of things. He's a super nice and understanding guy, but i'm not ready to tell him about my panic yet. I kind of want to have ONE area of my life where panic doesn't exist, if that makes any sense. He's living back in his hometown for the summer, but lives here for school during the year. We are not going to an important function, just going to hang out. I'm feeling ok about it now. I'm glad to be going there, b/c i can leave if i have to. If he were coming here, and i had panic attacks, i'd feel really bad about having to kick him out!

If this is your firstdate and you are going out of town to somewhere you've never been before, it must be an important function he wants to take you on. I would not do this on a first date, unless you've known this person for a long, long time. I would be very anxious too. You hve to tell us more about the situation before getting a valid response other than NO!. Tell us more. LUV, SUZY.

Thanks lady. I feel ok this morning. Did i mention that i have to go out of town for this date? To a place i have never been? Hmmmm, maybe that explains some of the anxiety, especially since i'm going to see someone i'm nervous around! Argh!

Oh Beth... I wish I could give you the answers.. I do remember those days..and I know what you mean about 'the moment you hang up the phone". You are deffinitly NOT being silly! This may not help you now... but I would say in trying to make the first few dates, that you try to Keep it casuall at first.. do it in a bit of a group so that there are others to help carry the conversations.. and maybe one of the other folks would be a good friend of yours that can give you some emotional support..'escape to the ladies room' with you if needed.. I do wish I could say more to you. I understand how 'freaked' you must be feeling right now. ((hugs)) Lady

Hi Everyone, this is the first time i've reached out for support, and all i need is for people to tell me how silly i am. I've have not had a relationship in over 2 years b/c of panic attacks. I was terrified of the emotional involvement, b/c i didn't want to get hurt, which causes panic attacks. This was all fine and dandy until now. I have a date tomorrow with a guy i really like, and with whom a future is possible. (As in, he won't just be a guy I casually date for a few weeks, then drop). I'm TERRIFIED! For the first time in ages, i'm having panic attacks again, they started as soon as i hung up the phone after making plans with him! I'm afraid i'm going to chicken out. More ridiculously, i'm afraid that i'll chicken out, and keep doing this, and be single FOREVER! I'm only 23, i should be having healthy relationships!! Can anyone relate? Please help me with some moral support!!!! Thank-you!
