Nalu- That is exactly how I felt...like I was going to just crawl out of my skin. Just lost, dull , numb and brain dead. I was mad at myself and really realized how nicotine really is a drug and why did I even smoke those nasty things?? My mind played tricks on me wanting me to smoke all kinds of thoughts and bargaining in my head went on!!! Just do not smoke it is sooo worth it. You have to trust that it DOES and WILL get better!!!! I have made it this far and I never wanted or thought about quitting, I was going to smoke till the end. Just be patient with yourself and take it day by day. Nalu, I know exactly how you feel. I felt the exact same way. I survived by just taking it minute by minute. If you put one foot in front of the other you will make it. Don't look beyond right now. Focus on this minute. Gather your coping mechanisms. Get some hard candies. Grab some water bottles. Read up on old posts. Whatever you need to do ~ just do not smoke. I cried, slept, yelled, punched at pillows, and drowned in water. But I did not smoke. And here I am today. Still putting one foot in front of the other. Hang in there my friend, and know you did right by posting here!! It's just so nasty. I can't believe anything like this can happen to withdrawling off a legal drug? I feel as if I were a heroin addict or something, it's just so surreal, and I'm so pissed off that I don't even like me right now. This is not the person I am, yet, I am not sure, and I find that so confusing. I didn't expect this at all. So much for all my prepared this time thinking. Going to an indoor concert tonight (long planned) Glad it's indoors, if I don't go outside I should get through the rest of this day. Don't like myself so angery though. After all this is all my fault any way. I am so grateful for this site you people and that the people who love me do understand I'm just not me right now. Thanks you guys/gals. Day one and I feel like I have lost my mind. Hung up the phone on a friend tried to get out of the house and cigarettes were every where, where I buy my gas, I stood there with a cup of coffee drooling fixated on my old brand of demons to the point where the cashier started asking me if I was OK. THIS SUCKS.........After that had a Nicotine gum and it calmed me some but I'm so grumpy and spaced out. I know it will pass. It's jsut so very hard, so very hard and I feel like all the good attitude and optimism I had has fadded in one day. Nalu. We have been where you are and trust me, we didn't know what to do next. I found myself staring at strangers at stoplights that were smoking in their cars. I swear I never saw anyone else smoking anywhere until I quit and then the smokers were everywhere! Take some deep breaths. Don't envy the smoker. You are in the process of breaking free of the control the cigarette has on you. You are going to be so happy that you quit. Much happier than you could ever imagine. It is a rough ride but hang on tight because it is so worth it! Get through 5 minutes at a time if that is what it takes. I spent those early days keeping busy and then once I found this site, I was here all the time. When I felt I couldn't take it any more I would post and others would help. This addiction is actually sposed to be more difficult than heroin. All I know is that breaking it was the hardest thing I ever did. I sobbed and slept most of week one. But I finally decided that I was totally sick of smoking and was NOT gonna smoke no matter WHAT life threw my way. My hubby and I fought, I felt like I had lost my sanity, the tears wouldn't stop....but here I sat, reading, posting, reading, posting. It seemed impossible, but believe me, it passes and then one day you wonder what in the heck took you so long. You are in hell week. It can be just that. But each withdrawal symptom is a sign of breaking the addiction and a step towards freedom. Hang on with everything you can muster, reward yourself and know that it passes. You will not die from withdrawal, but you WILL die from smoking. Keep the faith and stay close! Best wishes. Nalu, please know this. We didn't know how we were doing it either. We just shoved and pushed and fought through. It is hard, no questioning that. Those first few days call for heroic measures. Hide under the covers, stay away from people, drink buckets of ice water. Keeping saying no. Smoking is not an option. Stay here...we can help you...please don't ever quit quitting. If you can push through, one minute, one hour, one day at a time, it will be so worth it. You can do this. I know you can. Nalu, You have received some good advice :) Take it slow and use those coping mechanisms at all times, it will help. Make yourself a list of rewards and when you reach a goal, reward yourself.
