Rough I tell ya.....

Passed a big test last night by going out to dinner and a show; drinking during both, but not partaking in any smokes. Actually sat next to a woman who was smoking constantly, but instead of craving I was really turned off to her act of smoking, it was so needy and desperate. Even with that strong, and unexpected reaction to her I'm back to serious cravings today. Normally on a drab weather day like today I would get my pleasure by sneaking off to my car for multiple butts and radio listening, but since its lousy outside I don't want to do a walk. The walk is what has kept me out of my smoking car for this first week of hell. I guess all I have today is writing here and gum......Yikes....This S$%Ks.... Thanks for the support...I mean it. I don't have many distractions...Walking when I can, gum, water. Nothing really exciting. Being at work doesn't present much of an opportunity to treat myself. I guess when I get home I'll workout, rent a movie, and hope that it will provide enough of a distraction to keep me in check. When it comes down to it nothing has really felt like a treat. The thing that has kept me going is just the thought that I am in control of my life, and being able to click on the still Smoke Free checkbox in the glove compartment. :| My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 45 Amount Saved: $12 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 21 Seconds: 20

That was a big test and you did pass with flying colours. But, this quit is a roller coaster for awhile - up when we are proud, excited, feel our body getting healthier and then down in the doldrums, dealing with dang cravings etc. I was having a rough day today with the cravings (not that they were like first week), just tired of them. You just made me realize that I have not been in the office most of the week. When I get cravings at work, I often "check in" at SCC to read a couple posts or post if I feel the urge. Perhaps I was craving an SCC fix. I also realized that this week was REALLY busy. I was disappointed because I didn't have all that extra energy and I didn't feel like running off to the gym. I was craving a "Nap" I don't think that I helped you...but you did help me realize why I might be feeling like I'm not getting my "fix" this week. Hi jt, You are doing great! Just stick with it. Utilize whatever distractions help. My favorite things to do are coming in here and getting my stats for the day, watching movies, crocheting and exercising. I go 3 days a week to the hospital where I work and get into the cardiac rehab department for some good workout exercises. See, I have a heart problem now and my doctor has said "NO MORE SMOKING" and get that heart up and pumping good! And, guess what???? I finally listened to him and gave up the nicodemon and have been exercising for about a month now! I really feel good and all the people I work with say that I look 100% better now! And, I feel great! So, don't give up. Hell week is bad but you are half way through it now! I have faith in you. Stay true to your quit! Hey---you passed the test last night. Perhaps the second-hand smoke got to you and causing the little extra cravings. I think the same thing happened to me last weekend! You're almost done with Hell week! Hang on... Sending hugs, prayers and well wishes your way! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,421 Amount Saved: $224 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 9 Seconds: 44

Hi jtobin - Rewards will balance out your Quit in a myriad of ways... Please make sure to protect your Quit with everything... I didn't test my Quit (well, and a few big ways, still haven't) at the beginning of my Quit as too many lose their Quits... Like a small child or helpless animal, a new Quit is very in need or protection daily... Rewards! :) And you are doing well - stay focused and strong :) Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 215 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,541 Amount Saved: $999.75 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 22 Mins: 39 Seconds: 27

Hi jtobin, Needy and desperate... I think that's a very accurate description of how smokers look when we're finally on the outside looking in. Congrats on getting through a difficult situation. Stand proud that you just short circuited one of those associations your brain had with that situation. I walk just about every day and I became a "die hard"... even walking when it was 20 degrees and a slight outside. You do whatever you need to do to keep from smoking. That 4th day was my toughest...yes it does suck!..but you know what? It passed. ) Keep hanging in there. You're over halfway through hell week now and doing an awesome job. jt, You are doing great! What else are you using as distractions or coping mechanisms? It is important to have a back-up and that you are occupied. What are your rewards? This will help you push forward to reach your goals. We are here to help :) Keep Strong Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
