freaked out at a theater

Hi, Maria, nice to post with you today, but I got a late start..had a dr appt. I too feel that these people that abuse, are lower and not in the same catagory as we are. They are sick, have issues, however you want to put it..and I steer clear. Do you know why we attract them? Red

Dear Red, Yes, I was abused in many ways as a child. It took me many years of therapy and working on these issues on my own - I finally have been able to move on to a higher place and can look down on those small weak spirits and know I have won - I am still here and working on my issues and striving everyday of my life to be a better person - living in love and trusting the beauty of nature. Maria, I am sorry I didn't answer this sooner, but I was nt feeling well. I freaked out in a store, but it was a Gran Mal Seizure. They put me on meds and did a lot of testing, and never did find a reason for it. I have my own ideas..but they are not within the confines ok the science of meedicine. At the time, my husband was being his very abusive, nasty, ugly, ahcholic self. I think there is just so much one can take before exploding..and that seizure wass me exploding. The drs pooh-poohed it telling me I was wrong, that that can't happen from abuse, but I think they are not up to date on causes. Oh, how I hate abuse, and if someone even talks nasty to me..I shy away. I am sensitive as we all are, but the difference is, I won't stay and fight..I back off. Have you had any abusive relationships? This message was edited by am on 1-27-02 @ 11:39 PM

Maria & MrBubble, Someone will be here for you if you should freak out, as you say. Not to worry, right Anne-Marie? Red :8o:

Dear Mr Bubble, I understand what you are saying about "I survived the panic attack - and did not die". While I am in the throws of the attack and it is crecendoing I want to be able to say "sure, I am going to be o.k." - but, I cannot do that. If it is a small scale attack, I can usually talk my way out of it. But, the one just the other night was brutal. I am still terrified of this wierd phenomenon. You speak as if you are in control of your panic attacks. Sometimes I am, I take my medication as go on my merry way - then, out of no where it appears and flings me about like a rag doll. I think I am going to like this site. Seems as though it is brand new - I will continue to participate. I hope someone will be out there for me if I have one at home. Bye for now, Maria

Hi Maria I have had several panic attacks in a public places, including theaters and classrooms. It wasn't pretty. The first time was the worst. The worst part was the feeling of being totally out of control and being pretty sure that I was going to die. When that happens to me I get what I call a "panic hangover" that lasts at least for the rest of the day. I feel like I have run a marathon or something. After a lot of therapy I have gradually figured out that I have probably already experienced a panic attack as bad as it can get for me...and I have survived. I have slowly come to believe that since I have survived panic "as bad as it can get", that I can probably handle it if it happens again. It ain't pretty and I still feel pretty out of control at the time... but I can handle it. Funny enough, on a good day, when I am feeling strong, this kind of thinking makes me feel a lot more in control. If it happens, I can probably handle it. If I can't handle it, I know what is going to happen and I know that at least I'll survive. Maybe a pretty low bar but it helps.

hope I use this site correctly - anyway, wonder if anyone out there has ever 'freaked out' so to speak in public and how did you deal with it - and, did it have lasting effects for a few days after. Maria
