Anne-Marie, This panic thing can lie dormant ffor years and all of a sudden, thee it is. something will trigger this feeling...this horrible, sinking, gut wrenching, heart-beating, sweaty problem. Now obviously there are degrees to which each person suffers. Mine has been with me a lond time andI really think that old habits die hard. We get into a denial thing, pretending it is "nothing", when in fact it is. It is when you feel out of control with it that you must seek help. Has anyone noticed your reaction? Is this new? Please don't think for one minute, that you have something horrible wrong.you know better than that..but this is a sneaky disorder, and our minds love to play games, deny, file it somewhere else. I have one of those minds, but do notgive it an inch anymore..I make a note and take it to the PhD. So my mind has realized that it cannot play with me. I had to do a lot of work on it in the stopsmoking center. Red LOL

So true! Your comments make me question the degree of my own recovery from a bad car accident some time ago. My nervousness arose unexpectedly when recently, not as a driver but as a passenger, I accompanied a student driver. Baby steps for me in that passenger seat. I too will probably learn a lot from you, as Melanie and I have from the quitters on the stopsmoking.net site. What an asset you will be to this group! I hope you will bookmark this page (just drag and drop the little icon from your browser window to your links bar and voila!) and return often, Red. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Hello and thank you again for your gracious welcome. I would like to say that I found out a lot about myself when I quit smoking. I needed a plan of attack..and had to go thru some steps to remind myself of a process I used for something else. You must start at the very beginning, and make a list of the good things and the other side is the bad or negative things. Then I needed to have a reason for not doing or doing as the case may be. Set forth goals in accordance to their importance and a time frame to do each one. I had to desensitize myself in order to drive again. Each days drive had to be in my comfort zone..because if I had a Panic Attack from that day..I would have to go back to the beginning. Not like smoking..where you could just dismiss the slip and keep going. This was a very definite plan..and we all know how important it is to drive with your wits about you. With each new experience, wether it be driving again, or quitting smoking, you need a plan, an unsinkable plan, neat and tidy, written in stone. Red
