Welcome Matt ! There is a new club forming for people who quit smoking in February 06. It is being run by FairyDust.. We are looking for a name and for new members.. you are welcome and invited. Pick up some hard candy.. it will help with the cravings.. Get rid of all cigarettes and ashtrays and give yourself 0 access. Drink lots of water or tea or cranberry juice. These will help flush the nicotine out of your system faster. In 3 days you will pass the physical addiction and it really is easier after that. Look at quitting for what it really is.. rehab. Pamper yourself and make the next few days about you. Rest when you need to, vent when you need to. Eat a bit more if you need to. Let others know that this is your time.. it helps them to be supportive. YOU HAVE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION !!! YOU CAN DO THIS !!!! HANG TUFF !! Matt, I saw your post on another thread and wanted to start this one for you. Welcome to the SSC and I hope we can help answer your questions...
My question is, how do you function those first few days. My problem is that I tell my self that I can't do my job adequetly if I don't smoke.. I just feel dumb when I'm not smoking.. help!
If you've not already worked the tools in this program (see the menu to the left), then you'll definitely want to do that. Also, log on to this site often, read, post, read, read, read then post some more. You'll learn some valuable information as you get through those cravings. For the first two or three days while the chemicals leave your system, doing your job may be a little more difficult but it will return to normal. Take it easy on yourself as much as you can. Get a plan ready for when a craving hits. Have gum to keep your mouth busy, candies to help with the sugar fluctuations, some have used straws to breathe through... I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions. Hang in there...post when you need us! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 376 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,535 Amount Saved: $1342.32 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 21 Mins: 24 Seconds: 2
