The Patch?

for 19 år siden 0 18 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I think I may go light on the patch. Use a 7mg and try to get off it after a week. I'm gonna be a spaced out wreck, but luckily, I have 2 weeks off work right now...perfect time to quit. I can just be spaced out by myself.

Can anyone give me advice about the nicotine patch? I smoke about 10 cigs a day...what strength should I start with? What should I be aware of? Can I wear it anywhere on my body? How long should I use it?

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

The last few years of smoking I had cut down to 10-12 cigarettes a day. I didnt know if I could trust my self to stay quit so I started with the 27 mg patch. I used about a box and a half of the 27 mg patch. My intentions were to continue the entire program by stepping down to the 14 mg patch and then the 7 mg patch. I never made it past the second box of my 27 mg because one day I forgot to put it on and then the next..so on. I then decided to stay not only smoke free but nicotine free. The main downfalls I would say about the patches are the red squares that are left on your body and trying to find a new place to put them everyday. It may be different for most people since my skin is more sensitive than others. Bottom line for me is that I dont know what I would have done if I didnt use the patch. I would suggest seeking the advice of your doctor first just to make sure. Good luck and keep us posted! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi, I smoked 10-20 smokes a day and quite a lot more on weekends or when I had the opportunity. I used the 21 mg patch and I was pretty worried at first. The patch was a miracle! I had never used anything like it before. I also "wanted this quit" and "believed" in the patch. I did everything I had ever heard anyone say that would possibly help. The drop from 21mg-14mg was fine, I couldn't really tell a difference. The drop from 14mg-7mg was awful! It really scared me about when the day of no more patches would come. I was so scared I even cut my last few patches in half to make them last longer! Then three days before the end I forgot to put it on all together. So much for being scared! I will say I chew regular or sugar free gum at least half the day and I drink a lot of water(something I had NEVER done before). I also joined "Sparkpeople". It is a healthy lifestyle website.I figured if I can quit smoking I might as well be healthy all around! So I hope my awful rambling on and on helps you a little. Good luck to you and read the posts often! Hello Shark, I smoked a pack and a half or more for 19 years...When I quit in Feb. I used the 21 mg patch for 1 week...I do think it helped "take the edge off" to a certain extent, but the more I read, the more I decided I had no interest in detoxing twice...Once from the "other toxins" and once from the nicotine...So I decided on day 8 to do a test...I left day 7's patch on an extra 6-8 hours...then I removed the patch and showered and left it off...I decided if I freaked out I could put another one on...I didn't...I even lived with a smoker at the time...I would say I slept a little more the next couple days than usual (but that might have been from the lack of crazy dreams brought on by the patch!) but that's about it...I actually started to get my head screwed on straight after I quit the patch (I was really zoned and out of it while I was on it)...This is just my experience however...everyone is different due to their body chemistry and level of mental addiction I think...The worst part of my whole quit quite honestly was trying to figure out what to do with my hands! (I sat on them alot! LOL) Whatever you decide about the patch or any other NRT, I wish you all the luck! Just remember: N.O.P.E.!!!!!!! The instructions say if you smoke 10 or less to start with the 14mg. I used the Sams club members mark brand and I believe you stay on that for 6 weeks. Then you move down to the 7mg for 2 weeks. I smoked 20 a day, but cut down to 3-5 a day for a week and a half before I put on the patch and quit. I went ahead and started with the 14mg instead of the 21mg and had no problems doing that. I also had no problems with the patch falling off my arm as I have read some people have. The sams club brand was alot cheaper then the name brand patches. There is a little burning and itching when you first put it on, but it did not last very long. I know some people have a reaction like a rash and can't wear them. Just remember the patch is an aid and you will still have craves while using them. But I felt like it took the edge off and I loved using them. Good luck! Shark, Your best bet is to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist. They have extensive knowledge regarding dosages and side effects. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
