Mama, It's normal, if you keep thinking about it, you brain keeps cravings it and the cycle goes on and on. Do something physical or something that keeps your mind from wandering whatsoever because your focusing on what your doing. For example, rollerblading... can't think about smoking if your trying to keep from taking a nose dive. ;) Hope this helps, Danielle ______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

HOLD ON!!!!!!!! You can do this! I had a rough patch on days 8-10 and then after that I was fine. You just have to ride this out and don't smoke! IT WILL PASS >>> I PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when you make it through without a smoke think of how HAPPY & Proud you will be then! Reward yourself for you 1 week! I think that was why I had a few bad days. I waited until day 10 to give myself a reward...bad idea!!!! The minute I got my haircut (reward) I felt like I had renewed strength! I couldn't give up then because I just rewarded myself for quitting! That was my AH-HA Moment!~ I knew that was it!!! I knew I was now an ex-smoker My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 478 Amount Saved: $103.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 16 Mins: 53 Seconds: 42

Glad you posted Mama - don't move a muscle! PLEASE tell your daughter to hide her cigs someplace you will never find them. You will breathe in (SLOWLY) and Breathe Out - again, Slowly. Feel your lungs fill up with air and relax your entire body on the exhale. Drink super cold water one sip at a time. You need to say, I don't smoke anymore. Repeat it, believe it, it's true. You're doing this thing Mama and you should be proud. I personally am glad you ate the yogurt! Reward for one week with no cigs. Take a little walk and think about all the good you are doing ! Hang in there - craving are tough but they do go away. Dear Mama Good Job on not smoking! I agree with Breaking Free and Coben Fan on their advice. Ask your daughter not to leave her smokes out. Especially not during hell and heck week. Also, I am not sure about the 2 1/2 minute rule. For me during hell week and heck week my cravings lasted much longer. But it was like CobenFan said DEEP breaths and you can get through it in a few minutes. Yep, good plan on going to bed early. I did. Get comfy and try and pamper yourself. Great Job on coming here Mama instead of smoking! Right ON! I AM PROUD OF YOU!! You are just minutes from fininshing hell week....YOU CAN DO THIS! Hang in there and stay strong Kare My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 128 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,933 Amount Saved: $384 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 1 Mins: 30 Seconds: 0

Dear Mama AWESOME job on getting through the night! Thanks for coming back and letting us know how you did. Everything is different going forth in life. The "victory" smoke. I bet you also smoked when you lost a big sale. Isn't it fumy that you smoked for the complete opposite.....success & failure, anxious and bored, sad and happy, celebrate and grieve! We need to reverse the bad brainwashing smoking has done to us. Stay close by Mama, you can get through this! It would be a bummer to have to do these 7 days again and it sounds like you really WANT this quit and that is the most important tool you have! Mama- sure hope you're ok here. As for the "3-5min crave thing", I have to agree with Shevie and Lady. What a bunch of crap! I think it's stated to make the premise of quitting less arduous.....I'd rather know what I'm getting into versus sugar-coating it. If my craves were only 3 minutes, this quit would be a picnic. Oh well. I hope all is well for you today. Prepare for a tough fight. Set some limits with your family about smoking around you. :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 110 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,415 Amount Saved: $990 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 3 Mins: 14 Seconds: 43

Mama - I missed your posts yesterday but read with relief your post from today. The reasons that the craving hit are very real but now you will have to find another way to reward yourself at work when you make a big sale. Find one of your fellow salesperson that doesn't smoke and celebrate with them. Send flowers to yourself! Celebrate yourself because you are doing one awesome job of kicking the nicdemon to the curb! You are excercising, taking care of yourself and owning this quit. We will always have temptations but you flew by this with flying colors. The cravings will lessen as those days add up on your meter but you always have to be vigil with the junkie! He pops up when you least expect it! Great Job! Just a thought, but sometimes the worst cravings, I think, are the result of allowing yourself to consider smoking, a temporary weakening of your commitment to quit. So you're battling through not just the physical craving and the habit craving, but also having to redefine that you want to quit, that you don't want to smoke. It's too much to deal with at one time, and it means your evening was shot. You did a great job of getting through!!!!!!!!!!! You didn't smoke! But you don't want to have too many more of those, right? I remember something someone said early in my quit -- consider your cravings temporary insanity and rely on your right-mind decision not to smoke. Assure yourself that you will not smoke. Be confident that you will not smoke. Have faith in your commitment to quit. Then, when the craving is passed, when you're not in the middle of it, work work work to deepen your commitment to quitting, so soon you're not even really considering it, just barrelling through the cravings. You're doing great and you have a lot of support! Don't forget that reward night that you missed! quitter My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,951 Amount Saved: $208.55 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 10 Mins: 47 Seconds: 29
