Please take advantage of our free Online Treatment Program in your glove compartment as you log into our site. This program will first help you determine if youre ready to quit. If youve already quit and are looking for some help, this program is for you. Although the program will first assess if youre ready to quit the exercises at the beginning of the program will help remind you of the reasons why you quit in the first place. hello I quit smoking 2 days ago after seeing my new orthopedic surgeon. I have degenetive disc disease and need surgery and he said he would not do it until I quit smoking. he said i should go cold turkey; that patches and gum would only prolong the symptoms. I must say it's harder than I thought. I am soooooo stress that I have chest pains and pain in my back and shoulders. I take any advice I can get. HELP!!!!! Hey Busybee ! You are in the 3 day dread period.. the hardest time. Treat this period like you are in rehab. It is the same thing.. addiction, withdrawal, rehabilitation. Pamper yourself and don't let anyone get in your way of that either. Drink a lot of water, cranberry juice and tea to help flush the nicotine out of your system. (I like the cranberry-grape) Get some candy to munch on.. sunflower seeds, peanuts, etc. When you get a craving (they last maximum of 3 min.) grab a piece of candy and wait for it to pass. Get hooked on the candy for a while... you know how easy you get burnt out on candy anyway. Get rid of all smoking stuff.. clean your car out.. spray everything. Avoid all smoking places and smokers if possible. If you can afford it, see a counselor.. (If I could afford it I would) Keep coming here !!! Welcome busybee, you have 2 days and that is a milestone. I too quit cold turkey. It's hard no matter what you chose to do to help but you are over the hump of the worse of it. They say the first 3 days are the worse. For me I just slept a lot to help me get through it. Then while awake I did everything I could to stay busy and to go to places that I could not smoke like the mall, etc. Another thing I have done is sunflower seeds, they kept my hands and mouth busy. Stay close to SSC and read and post there are many here with help. So much great help will come your way.
