week 3 sucks..

for 18 år siden 0 208 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well, I've been feeling pretty blue. I've been working around the clock due to rediculous schedules at work and I'm really sick of it. It's funny, I used to just smoke my way through all of this.. now it just sucks ;-). Smoking is definitely distracting, without the distraction, it is becoming pretty obvious that I need to make some other changes in my life.. like get a life. This is my first PMS with no cigs.. arg.. I'm not a happy camper. Funny, I don't feel like smoking but I do feel like crap. Tell me week 4 is better than 3. I haven't posted much because I can't think of one good thing to say... I'm just plain whiney ;-(. This sucks... anyone else feel like this in week three? Or at all.. I feel yukkie.. whine, whine, whine. Thanks everyone, your posts really do help. I am supposed to be working on another crazy, critical project, instead I posted my resume for two new jobs, took a long nap, and just gave myself a break. Of course, that just means more work tomorrow.. but that is ok. I still haven't smoked, so that one reason this is a good day! I stil feel whiney, fat, ugly, and overworked, but hey, there is always tomorrow ;-). I only have 2 more days of week 3.. looking forward to week four! Hey phreaknbz ! Anne-Marie posted this in 2002... I thought it was pretty cool... In my little experience.. I find the blahs go away as fast as they come.. and occur once a week or so.. no biggie.. better than the alternative. In many emails, Im asked and told the following. How do I get out of the blah slump? Im stuck and cant seem to shake it. Consider that for years many of us smokers practiced and rehearsed negative self-talk. Recognize this? Quitting is too hard. I can never do it. I tried it and failed. After hearing people say this and after echoing it over and over in our own minds, we built up an assortment of resisting thoughts and failure scenarios, even though we dont really want to feel that way. So many of us begin a quit dead scared and fearful, dont we? We taught ourselves certain negative scenarios and now we want to quit successfully. Countering Negative Self-talk Negative self-talk consists of those thoughts that we say to ourselves that contribute to depression, to anxiety and to low self-esteem. We dont usually notice it when we do it, but when we talk negatively to ourselves, it causes us to react to it. Self-talk is connected to our feelings. Just as we learned to talk negatively to ourselves as smokers, we have to learn to talk positively. It takes a lot of practice. Heres a quick, simple lesson. There are four common basic sub-personalities that contribute to this negative self-talk: The Worrier, the Critic, the Victim and the Perfectionist. Recognize any one of these in particular? The strength of these inner voices varies for different people, so it might really help for you to rank them from the strongest to the weakest in yourself: - The worrier thinks in terms of what ifs and worse-case scenarios. What if I have bad days? -The critic is hard on himself: Im so weak. I am a loser, etc. - The perfectionist uses should or I have to: (I have to quit without gaining a pound) - The victim: My friends offer me smokes. Sooner or later Ill take one and slip. 1. Whatever negative self-talk you say to yourself, concentrate on identifying it, first and foremost. Stop and identify something you may have said to yourself this morning or

phreak, You guessed it! Week 3 can be a little hairy. We call it "blah" week because you just feel "blah." Good name, huh? The first month is sort of difficult, but after that, it starts to get better. You still have your "arg" days, but you'd have those even if you smoked. You're doing fantastic! Hang in there and keep going! Crave the Quit! realize this is a negative thought... quitting sucks 'quitting' isn't really what sucks....it's withdrawing from nicotine and learning substitute rewarding that sucks! Once you get through withdrawal? Once you learn to reward yourself in other ways, instead of with a nicotine hit? You are gonna LOVE quitting......I promise ;) so give that junky a smart kick in the ash....don't let him hang in there and keep you down about quitting! cause actually it 'rocks' to quit Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1514 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60,572 Amount Saved: $8327 Life Gained: Days: 197 Hrs: 12 Mins: 31 Seconds: 13

Phreak, You are going to have your moments :) Take the time to relax and do something for yourself. 19 days is great and you will find a few more tough times to write about, so don't get discouraged.
