Hi all, Wow, yesterday(day 4) was a bad , bad, "bad" day. I was a mean SOB to everyone around me. I feel bad that this addition can effect everyone around me. Im on the 21mg patch and still have to chew gum when craving get too intense. About three pieces a day. Has anyone had to use both before? I hear do what every it take, just dont smoke. I hope this is not too much. I just want this nightmare to pass. Thank you Riverdale Man, Very informative, I've got the 7mg on and it's so small, I looked at it on my arm and thought this is good almost done. Today is today and we'll see what tomorrow brings. Have a good day I have to wash the dog again :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,117 Amount Saved: $296 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 19 Mins: 42 Seconds: 14

Hi Mac I never used the gum myself, i followed an 8 week course with a nurse and we also met with a pharmacist who said, in the beginning you can use a piece or 2 of 2 mg gum if it's too intense, what she suggested is cutting it in 2 so you can use 4 times a day, what she said is if you feel sick to your stomach it's too much ,so take it out. She also said that it's the same feeling you would get if you smoked now after quitting for 4 days. So don't smoke you will feel sick and stick with it it will get better :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,118 Amount Saved: $296 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 20 Mins: 3 Seconds: 36

Hi Iwin, I know that feeling you are talking about. I felt it too and didn't like it at all. It made me feel like I was on illegal drugs or something. I went from about 18mg to nothing because I couldn't take it any longer and wanted all the nicotine gone. I didn't like that weird feeling. It took 3 days and no crave over a 3 bothered me. All quits are different, but I just thought I share my experience with you. You can do this. Don't be scared. You are going to be just fine. Mac, you need to be very careful about overdosing on nicotine. The point of nicotine replacement therapy is to ease the cravings so that you can step down. You still have to do the heavy lifting. I suggest that you use one or the other, not both. Others may have thoughts on this... Iwin, I went down from 15mg to 10mg on Monday and was also quite nervous about it. I have not noticed the symptoms you describe but I have noticed stronger cravings (only occasional) and a bit of a sore throat. Whether that is actually down to the patches or just psychological I don't know, these are easier today. Well done to both of you, a job well done. Hi all, Just checking in to say that I am going to step down tommorrow to the 7mg patch. I stayed on the 14mg for 8 weeks because I started on them instead of the 21mg. Last week I was dreading having to step down but now I feel ready. I am even doing it a day early! The 14mg is starting to feel too strong. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but they make my tongue have a really funny feeling. I don't wear the patch at night and my tongue is fine in the morning, but after I put the patch on I get this feeling I can't even really describe the rest of the day. It is kind of like a tingling feeling or something. I also wanted to say that the habit part of my smoking is non existent at this point. I never think of a cigarette when the phone rings, when I am stressed out, or even in the car. So all I have to do now is get the nicotine out of my system after I am done with the 7mg and I am home free. It is such a great feeling not having to smoke. I have never felt so free. Also an update on my husband. He is still smoke free. Tommorrow is 30 days for him. Thanks for listening! Hi Iwin Congratulations to you and hubby. I was a patch user with excellent results. My routine was 4 weeks on 21mg, 2 weeks on 14mg and then 2 weeks on 7mg. I admit I was extremely nervous to be nekkid, but my fears were totally unfounded as it has been almost 2 weeks without and I am doing great. You say the habit part of smoking is now out of your life, so you are going to do wonderfully off the patch. How long will you be on the 7mg? If it is possible to have a look at someones' cig. pack, read the amounts of nicotene in the pack. After I quit I checked to find that I had been getting on average 50mg a day. So as you can see, you pretty well are going without much added "help" at all! Keep Strong, you're doing great. Almost 60!!! Iwin, Congratulations to you and your husband! I too had a tingling feeling in my tongue that lasted for months. It has finally gone. My tongue was actually the center of my craves. When I was a smoker, my tongue would tingle slightly and I knew it was time for a smoke! I'm guessing the hot smoke did something to the nerves on the top of it. Since quitting, it doesn't get the daily blow torch on it anymore. Keep on keepin' on!! Be Strong. Be Smart.
