Breath --- Breath Breath --- Breath Breath --- Breath Take a walk, pamper yourself, have an luxurious bath or a stimulating shower. There are a lot to things to do besides smoking. Find some loving and caring way that you can be with yourself. You have worked very hard to get to 246 days you have gone through hell week and heck week and anger and sad and depression and blahs and all of the stuff that the quitters here talk about. Your mind is taking you for a ride. Want to get romantic, the romance of smoking is simply a lie. For me the romance in my life most definately does not come from smoking. I will bet dollars to donuts that the romance in your life comes from something other than a cigarette, the romance will come from a place of vision and love and absolute surrender to the deliciousness of food and water and people and pets and children and gardens and beaches and woods and streams and lakes. Find yourself thinking about a smoke and time to start thinking about all of the truly good things in life and all the good that you are doing for yourself on the journey that you have been on for the last 8 months. The journey to freedom from tobacco. Sorry if I sound harsh or hard but I believe we can actually control our thoughts and the straying of our minds. We can shift our thoughts to the positive and beneficial parts of life and concentrate on those areas. I also believe that what we concentrate on grows. So therefore I think and sense the danger to your quit by a romantic idea of smoking. Stay Strong - Stay Quit Peace - Blessings Phillip :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 75 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,516 Amount Saved: $562.5 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 8 Mins: 34 Seconds: 5

Hi Peace Out, When I read your post it made me think back to my failed 8 month quit from two years ago. Where would I be if I had NOT acted on the nicodemon urges during those few times when I thought the cravings got bad. Including the few social situations when I thought, "Hey, just one won't hurt". WHAT IF I hadn't began to believe that only one would be okay every once in a while, say, one per month. I'll tell you WHAT IF.....I would be celebrating three smokefree years right now, that's WHAT IF! But NOOOO, instead i am back on the same smokey roller coaster only it is twice as bad. Cravings are stronger, emotions seem crazier, and I am two years older. Don't let this happen to you. It is WAY not worth it. The cravings may be screaming at you right now but let your desire to quit sing to you instead. Much nicer. The folks here give great advice that is well worth practicing. Also, try putting yourself ahead by two years and think of how/where you want to be. A NON-smoker right? Hang in there! You can do it! Joonie

Hey Tammi, I'm a little behind you on this quit but I've quit for years before this. 7 years one time!?! And I still had thoughts and this is my take on those thoughts.... Who cares... Why ask Why?? It's just junky thoughts... let them go and fix your thoughts on something else!! Take a really deep breath... did you notice you didn't make any strange noises or start coughing? Think about what you will be able to do with the extra years. Think about your fantastic accomplishment.Reward yourself!! You deserve it!! Just please don't give in to those thoughts. Read the newbies posts. Do you want to go thru that again? I don't mean to preach... I just want to help. Nothing has made my heart sink more than losing a long quit!! Stick with it "this too shall pass". Hi all. Thank you thank you thank you for all of your kind words. I still have not smoked, and won't. The last 2 serious times I tried to quit, I gave in right around the 8-9 month period. That's where I am right now in this quit, and I was just freakin' out a little bit. There is no way in the world that I want to start this process all over again, so for now, all I can do is take it one crave at a time. Thanks you guys. Ya' know, the one major thing I did different with this quit than with the other two? I joined this site, this time. And I honestly believe it has made all the difference. Have a wonderful smoke free day, Tammi My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/30/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 250 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,010 Amount Saved: $875 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 1 Mins: 52 Seconds: 50

Tammi, I am not too far ahead of you on my quit and I can tell you that I certainly have a passing thought now and then about it. I agree with the rest of the sentiments here that it is just the thoughts of a junkie, after all you were addicted to a drug (albeit a legal one) and your body is still in the process of weening off of it. They don't say nicotine addiction is more difficult to curb than coke or heroine for no reason. You need to continue to reward yourself. You need to bask in the luxuries that not smoking provides you. If you smoked, you would be shelling out close to $6/pack for smokes for what? A stupid habit? You can do this. :) -Bill My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/10/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 300 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,412 Amount Saved: $1800 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 22 Mins: 20 Seconds: 0

Tammi, I agree that joining this site made all the difference in the world. I'm coming in a little late here but what Rusty said is so true. You acknowledge the crave, recognize it for what it is worth (junkie THINKING nothing more) and dismiss it. Move forward because you no longer smoke. Someone very wise told me to laugh off the craves. Guess what? It works. Enjoy your freedom. Don't ever go back to being a slave to the cigarette. It just isn't worth it. Peace Out, Congratulations on 246 days! You must be so proud of yourself! I know that you wouldn't ever want to throw all of that hard work away, so just kick that junkie to the curb and keep on living! You're doing great! I know it's hard sometimes, but we had hard times even when we smoked. So just stick this out just like you did during Hell Week and don't give the junkie any power! You've worked too hard and come too far to throw it all away! And I KNOW that you don't want to do that! Crave the Quit! Hi, Tammi. Sorry to hear you're having some problems. Keith's advice is really good. It's just junkie thoughts. Ignore them. BTW, have you been rewarding yourself? Just because you are well into your quit doesn't mean you can let yourself go, so to speak. You still need rewards. It takes 12 - 18 months for the brain to recover from the insults of nicotine. Rewards help this process along much like exercise helps muscles rebuild after injury/atrophy. Think of rewards as free weights for the brain. :) Eight months smoke-free is fantastic, Tammi. Keep up the good quit. Shevie P.S. Big congrats on 200 days, Keith! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 345 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,916 Amount Saved: $1311 Life Gained: Days: 64 Hrs: 11 Mins: 16 Seconds: 47

I have only been 96 days, but I go to a smoking cessation class every week. I have at times those thoughts, but I always remember what my instructor told me, treat it like a divorce, it will always be around, but you don't want to go back. I have learned breathing skills at this class, which really helps too.
