Hi Gammy45, I imagine how awful that first puff is going to be after not smoking for 12 days. It is not going to be like you remember. I also think about how I don't want to have to start over again. The longer you go the easier it gets. Just tell yourself YOU are in control of this. One of my stop smoking incentives has left for the weekend. My junkie thoughts are saying "it won't matter", you know the rest. I plan on taking myself to lunch today hoping that a small reward for all that I have accomplished will quiet the nico-demon in my head. Any other suggestions? My quit so far has been uneventful. Not much in the way of craves as they are easily dismissed. So I know that it is just mental, while the cat's away, the mice will play. I really will need to fight this one and I look forward to any other suggestions. I will not give up. No smokes in the house. Hung out with a smoking friend. Boy if that wasn't a setting for destruction. Cannot hang out with her for awhile. Thanks for the wonderful story Neek, that is exactly the way I feel alot of the time. I tried reminding myself for my personal reasons for staying quit. Was not committed enough though and had a few puffs. But am back smoke free. I reset my quit meter a couple of days. I have decided that I will get in on the weekend promise next time and stay closer to the computer. I am determined not to fall ever again. Thanks

It seems as though this "incentive" topic is being covered a bunch lately. I have gone through this as well. I've been smoke free for 18 days now and really the only difficult time is when I'm at work. I quit for her. Plain and simple. She told me how much it bugged me and that she couldn't be with someone long term who smoked. I was affraid of losing her. She stuck by me when I slipped and we cried together. I am happy that this quit is going so well. I think this time around I have found new reasons other than the main reason that keep me going. Seeing her is like a breath of fresh air. I forget about smoking (aside from occasional thoughts). She is a major motivation for me. I enjoy making her happy, letting her know that I didn't smoke today, telling her the total number of days. If she left I'm sure I would call her to tell her that I hadn't smoked. It seems childish, but being proud of your quit is one thing that keeps me going. I can't wait until I hit 20 days. Rolling that 10 digit is nice to see. I also purchased a home yesterday, my first. Saving money is a big motivation. My girlfriend is going to move in with me too, so being smoke free is something that will make ALL of us happy, including my family and friends, so I've found many ways to motivate myself. Using a significant other as motivation is great, but in the end if that person goes out of town or is gone for a prolonged period of time, you need to come up with your own motivation.

Do you still have cigs in the house? Flush um if you do. I flushed a full pack plus a good 3/4 of another one when I quit this last time. It felt good. Don't give up. I went thru that early in my quit.....my "incentive" left for a business trip and I was obsessed with thoughts of "cheating" But then i started thinking past the first cigarette. Which is really hard to do sometimes, and realized that I didn't want to have to go thru a weekend of smoking only to quit again when he got back. So i didn't do it. And here i am !!
