Coping with cravings and change

for 15 år siden 0 1843 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Oh MM, I cannot stop laughing about rubbing patches!  Kir, listen to MM's advice.  She makes it easier for so many of us to remain smoke free!  She may be a detective during the day, but she is a super hero all the time to me!  Isn't it wonderful to spend your first major holiday smoke free?   Yeah for you Kir!

Sounds like you are coping pretty well.  As for intimacy, hubby and I would rub each other's nicotine patch afterwards    Keep up the good work.  It gets easier as time passes.

Kir,

Great job on 5 smoke free days. You are in the toughest part of the quit now, where there is no end in sight to the fight or cravings, and you tell yourself everything in order to start again.  This does pass in a couple days, and gets a little easier.  You might be surprised at the hog roast that everything tastes better, as your taste starts to come back right around now.  You may want to avoid drinking if that is usually a trigger for you, and keep away as much as you can from the smokers.  If you do breathe that stuff in, put it in your mind that the smoke is disgusting.

Keep your eye on the prize and take one day at a time.  There are better days and many pitchers of iced tea ahead!

Kir,

Welcome and please know that we do know where you are coming from!  You are setting an amazing example for your family and I can bet they are very proud of you!

You have to prepare for these events and situations and have some back up support.

Take along some coping mechanisms to help keep your hands busy
Stay away from the smoking crowd
Be the designated driver for awhile
Leave the situation...breathe and then return

The cravings will dwindle in time and by changing up your habits it will be easier to disassociate the cigarettes from your everyday routine.

Intimate time with your husband can still continue, but perhaps as him to leave the room if he has to smoke and for you a nice glass of water to re-hydrate yourself!

Your ok and your doing an amazing job!

5 days is great!

Im not sure i want to be a nonsmoker. Seems boring!  OK not true. Im just having lots of trouble adjusting to a smoke free life. Its only been 5 days but already so many things are different. Other than the great thing of being able to breathe easier and not coughing as much not smoking doesnt seem to be a good thing.
First, I havent had my favorite drink (iced tea )in 5 days because lets face it i drink it i feel like i want a cig.
Second, i finally left the house for the first time as a nonsmoker yesterday, boy that was hard! driving and smoking have always gone hand in hand although i didnt smoke as much while driving as i did while riding.
Third, we are suppose to go to a Hog Roast tonight, Im scared to go!! All the eating, drinking, & smoking is going to kill me. But i have to go why should my husband and children suffer because im scared to leave the house right now. In csse i never mentioned it Inside my house has always been a smoke free zone. I always smoked outside on the porch. I like to have an occasional drink or 2 myself but how can i when smoking has always gone along with that drink.
Fourth, i have gained 5 lbs in 5 days. That is CRAZY!!!! That right there has the power to send me back to my smokes. Probably mostly water weight seeing as how i have never drank so much water in my life as these last 5 days.
OH and Fifth and Final, I haven't even been able to ummm you know with my hubby cause i know ill want that after smoke. Got any ideas for that craving. I can't tell him not forever!
Like i said i seem to be having lots of trouble dealing with the cravings and changes. so any suggestions would be great. So much to complain about so little time but i guess the greatest thing is im still smoke free. Thanks to having a place to vent my fears and worries.
