Hi Tina
just don't rush the process whatever you do. If what you are doing is working for you then why change it? You will know when you are ready to move forward. Don't do it to soon, staying where you are is much better than starting all over again. Keep up the strength and courage!

I sure hope you rethink about going off the patches. Your body is getting rid of many more chemicals beside nicotine. If you are serious about this phase of your quit make sure you are prepared. There is a book out there by Allen Carr. Give yourself sometime and read it and then maybe go off the patches. But do not feel like you are cheating, you only will cheat yourself if you jump ahead to soon. I know, I did and I have many starts behind me, not recommended.
I am in agreement with the straws, had them everywhere. Car, work, purse, coat pocket, by the computer and by the TV.
Keep the Quit

Yep, I'm with the straws. I went through hundreds of them in my first couple of months, especially while driving. There are many people in this city who are unaware that a straw saved their life!

The next time you yearn for "hand/mouth" sensation, try this. Cut up a plastic straw in 3 pieces (the length sort of replicates a cig) and chew on it. (I even used the bright neon colored straws just to add a little fun to the activity.) This trick has worked wonders for me. I keep a supply in my car some at home. When the craving hit, I chewed on a straw and the craving went away. And the best part is it's a non-caloric alternative!

Tubbies,
We recommend using the patches as prescribed on the box.
You have been smoking for probably many years now and your smoking is not only a physical habit but also a mental habit. It becomes a relaxing motion to bring the cigarette to and from your mouth and it gives you something to do when you are bored, stressed or happy. You're experiencing emotional withdrawal symptoms for your cigarettes, hence, why you want to use the inhalator.
Stay strong and come up with some other ways to use your time. What about playing a game of cards, having a big glass of water, taking a walk or any other activity that you enjoy. This is a great time to develop some coping mechanisms for and triggers or cravings that you will encounter.

hi everyone. i'm giving up using patches. i also have the inhalator for emergencies which i've had to use once in 9 days. for some strange reason, i keep wanting to use the inhalator. i think more about the inhalator than i do a cigarette. why? i know it's ok to use with the patches but i'd feel like i was cheating somehow. before giving up, i managed to cut down from 30 to 15 light cigarettes a day. i feel if i used both, my nicotine intake would be more than when i was smoking. i wish i'd never picked up that first cigarette ever!! tina
