Just saw your post. check in. i find that quit'n smoking can be like having chicken pox as a child. you never know if it might show up as shingles at a point of stress years later. except that you have more control over whether or not a cigarette gets shoved into your mouth. re-check your coping skills. you may be dealing with something you never have before. how do you want to envision yourself mastering this issue? you've got a whole new you outfit. don't think you've exhausted it. it's expandable and reversible. Give yourself a stretch. Hey! I am at 6 months and I thought I was unique!! I keep getting these darn cravings and they wont go away.I was getting to think it was just me I feel better already! I have an appointment with my counsellor in an hour and will report back. She looked after me early in my quit and has now recovered from the near nervous breakdown I inflicted on her poor soul LOL! I am craving a smoke. I have been really anxious for a week now and I could not figure out what the hell was wrong with me. I am not sure but I think that I was/am having cravings. I am dealing with them and all but how wierd. It is just beyond me that I would be having cravings this far into my quit. I don't think I will ever quite understand this addiction. Anyway....I am doing well other than that. It isn't something that is going to make me give up on my quit but it sure is uncomfortable and I hope it passes soon! Hello Nascarfan Glad to see you posted about this pesky thing. Those craves, smoking thoughts that hit far into the quit can be a surprise and a bother. My experience they come and go. I am more able to focus my energy on what I want and the life I want to live, free of smoking. So long story short. Refocus your attention, notice what is going on around and with you that these urges might occur. If you feel you are lacking something, give yourself what you actually need. For me those pesky smoking thoughts generally have to do with HALT: Hungry Angry Tired and Lonely or I am bored, fits for me on the angry scale. So a reward might be due. A change in some routine might be in order. Best to know and trust that the thoughts do leave and they are not nearly so consuming as they were at the beginning. Life changes and for me my quit became more doable as time moved and I began to trust myself bit by bit. Stay Strong - Thanks for your honesty. Hi NascarFan, Change of seasons can be a trigger too. New smells, temperature fluctuations, etc. It's good to experience all four seasons as an ex-smoker. You are almost there. Hang tough! Hi NF, These little triggers come from nowhere and can be quite a shock but you are dealing with them admirably. As time passes, they become less and less as your brain reprogrammes to disassociate smoking from certain past events that you are encountering once more. Far from being a craving, they are subconscious prompts from your earlier smoking life. Recognise them as normal and no threat to your quit and carry on with your smokefree life. For info, when they happen to me, and they still do, I just laugh at them and move on. Good Luck Penitent d994

Nascar, Is there something that triggered this? If you have to get out those mechanisms, then do so! This addiction is tricky and will try and persuade you to have "just one". Keep yourself busy and push forward. Thanks for checking in with us :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
