Hi Ericon, Try it and you will start to feel differently. I know it is hard to concentrate on anything in those first few days after quitting. You have large amounts of undiluted cortisol being pumped into your system that is the trigger for the fight or flight reaction in the body. I smoked for 22 years from the age of 11. At 11 my brain was changing from a childs brain to a teenager and the main difference is our ability to cope with stress and stressful situations without running and crying to mum. However by smoking we reliquished that responsibility and gave it over to cigarettes, As soon as we felt stress or under pressure we lit a cogarette and it appeared to dissapear. Little did we know that all we were doing was giving ourselves another dose of checmicals that would in a short while make us feel anxious again. So you see many if not all smokers never developed a natural way to deal with stress. We have no coping startegies and this is something you must do to get through this stage of the quit and beyond. We had to learn to be smokers, it did not come naturally in the same way you must now learn to be a non smoker. It will take longer than a couple of days to get to that ppoint but the first step is to start to listen and understand what your body is telling you and more importantly why it is telling you this. You can no longer just assume that all feelings are related to smoking. Smoking only served one purpose and that was to mask all true feelings. It had to otherwise what would be the point of smoking in the first place. These feelings are raw and untouched for a long time but they are there for a reason. Not to stop you quitting but to help you secure a lasting quit that does not rely on grit and willpower but on knowledge and a real understanding of your own body and feelings. Quitting is not the reason you feel like this , smoking is. It is time to start blaming and hating smoking as much as you do quitting. Quitting is just the inevitable part of reagaining your ability to fullfill your true potential. Something smoking had denied you. hello all, hope you are well. today someone returned my computer after they had fixed it. they informed me that in the process i had lost all of my photos and documents. they wernt able to retrieve them. why didnt this person phone me let me know this instead of barging ahead. i am so angry - i nearly started to smoke. it was soooooo tempting. my mouth is constantly craving for a cigarette. im feeling axious and i feel that i need something to take the edge off how im feeling. im breathing deeply but thats not helping - in fact its fueling my anger.......... taking a good look at myself im not angry at all. im sad, devestated, gutted. all of my photos of my beautiful nephews, my holidays abroad gone... i need to stay with these feelings. and thats all they are feelings. their not going to kill me. im learing to cope with my feelings without using nicotine,(even though i have been stuffing my face with biscuits the last few days). i feel im always trying to fight my feelings instead of trying to embrace them. glad this site is here at 02:36 in the morning for me to rant. thank you ann My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 222 Amount Saved: 64.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 25 Seconds: 33

Oh, Ann, I am SO sorry about your pictures. I don't suppose you have them anywhere else...on a CD? That's so sad. But the bright spot is that you are facing this without smoking, because you know that lighting up will not bring your stuff back. And I know you don't want to lose those 15 days that you have fought so hard for. You can face this. People who never smoked face their issues and deal with their feelings. Now we can, too, can't we? Hang in there, Ann. You are doing great. Ann, You will always have the memories in your mind. You can get new pictures of your nephews, and perhaps start a journal to document your travels and the wonderful things you experienced! You did the right thing by not smoking, it will not bring any of it back. Take some time to yourself and release those negative thoughts. We are always here for you, so let us help. Post often and share with us what you can do to keep from smoking :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
