Good choice to check with your physician! I'm hoping that your symptoms don't get worse! As for the digestive situation, try plenty of fruit juices, like apple juice and a fiber supplement like Metamucil. A fiber rich diet, plenty of liquids and exercise really helps! Sorry I missed ya on the IM the other day. I am usually logged in all day during the week, although work does interfere with an immediate response sometimes!
Congratulations on making it through Hell and Heck Week with flying colors!!! Your attitude is exactly where it needs to be to finally defeat the nico-demon!!! Stay psyched up and celebrate every smoke-free day!

This is what I call an educated opinion. So I'll take it.
I still had the dizzy spells this morning, even without the patch on. So, my guess is that it is related more to the change in lifestyle than to the patch. Still, I did what I said I will do and put the patch on after I got to work. I will stick to the patch as is for now. Unless it gets worse. And I plan to go talk to a doctor anyway, since I still cannot seem to get my digestive system to work with me here. It's been two weeks since everything seems "backed up"... The beauty of breaking the addiction... I guess! Well, it takes more than that to break my willpower! I'm strong and getting stronger by the day against the nicodemon!!!

In regards to how long to wear the patches I used to work for a company that made one of the brands and all the studies I saw said that one of the biggest problems was people would start on the patches and then get this guilt trip that they wanted to be off nicotine or they didn't want to spend the money to get the lower dose patches and so they would decide to not follow the program. Most of those people unfortunately relapse, it something like doubles your chances you will fail. I've also seen people come on this site and get overly concerned to get off the patches and then find they hit a stressful situation and are not prepared for it. Like Karen said she followed the program to a T and only changed dosages with supervision of a trained person. Like you said you don't want to go back after such a good quit going. I can tell you are going to succeed this time. Ron

I am going to try a different route for the next couple of days. I usually get to work and then have my breakfast. I will try for a few days to have breakfast first and then put the patch on. If that still does not work, I will downgrade to 14mg - and hope for the best. What's the worst case scenario... go back to the 21mg. Cause relapse is not an option. I keep on saying NOPE day in/day out...
Thank you for your support!

I had dizzy spells too Cristina, however, I had been on the 21mg patch for a while longer than you have. I started to become quite ill, very dizzy, very nauseous and I was told by my Health Professional at my doctors that I was actually having too much nicotine delivered by the patch. They suggested I tried the lower dose patch (14mg) and the dizzyness stopped straight away- so it sounds very similar to me Cristina, and perhaps you should try the lower dose. I know that you are probably afraid that your cravings may increase ( I know I was afraid of that), and I guess like Samantha says below you should perhaps seek professional help with that one as I would hate you to jeapordise your quit as it is going so great, my cravings didn't increase or come back thank goodness and I hope yours dont too- please let me know how it goes.

I tried the patch but had to stop. After about 5 weeks they started to itch real bad. I did not have any dizzy spells but the itching was terrible. I used to put the patch on right after my morning shower.

OK, I've been on the patch for two full weeks - the 21mg. I am doing good on the cravings - not much of a struggle. And I know that the patch helped me tremendously. I changed the routine about a week ago and getting to put the patch on about 1.5 hrs after I wake up and that is only because my mind tells me "better safe than sorry". BUT, I am starting to get a bit dizzy now after I put it on. I don't want to risk relapses, so I don't want to completely drop the patch, but I am starting to wonder if I should go to the lower nicotine level. I was a pretty heavy smoker so, according to the Nicoderm program, it would be 6 weeks on the highest, than two on the lower level and another two weeks on the lowest level. Last time (three years ago, I went through about the same thing and after 4 weeks I dropped the patches completely. Guess what, my quit lasted three months only. I think the major deal was that the mindset was not there. But I still wonder if it would have been different if I would have went through with the program)
Anyone had any experience with this?
Cristina
