I have been extremely emotional today!! My husband or kids say anything to me and I start crying! I cried when they asked me what was for dinner tonight. I feel like I am having a breakdown or something. I am on day 5 and the cravings have been okay, but how long will this last????? Please let me know. Thanks.
Heather

I'm with you heather... mood swings, irritabilty, irrational behavior, violent tendencies (I'm kidding about the violence :)...
This will pass I know it. I quit for six minths before and this bit does go away. Just look after yourself and don't beat yourself up because you're a bit weepy. Try and relax. It WILL get better.
NOPE...

Please hang in there. I was just like you before I tried Wellbutrin. It's never too late to start it. I was always an emotional wreck during my quits until this time. This drug takes away all my anger and tears which for me was the reason why I always went back to smoking.
Keep fighting it.

I did that same thing last weekend! That was on my days 4 & 5 myself. Anything anyone said to me, I'd burst into tears. I think it was partly the fact that it was the weekend and everyone was home and partly because I was so new in my quit.
Let me tell you that THIS weekend, I've been fine!
I'm assumming that we'll have some more emotional days ahead, at least once in a while, but I'm also sure it will get better all the time!
Keep up the good work!
Joyce

Heather:
Stay with it...I know it can be hard and feels uncomfortable (to say the least)...If your immediate family has never smoked, they may or may not fully appreciate the transformation that you are going through.
However, it might be wise to let them know that you are trying very hard to end an addiction as a result you may speak or act in slightly different ways. Perhaps they will understand and this will be a great help to you as you recover.
I am very proud of you for going through this, learn all that you can from this site. Read about the effects of smoking, and some of the changes that you can expect as you heal yourself...There are far more benefits than negatives...
As you gain greater and greater control over this, you will experience a certain level of discomfort, but you will know better than I that giving birth can be a very painful experience. Heather, you are busy being born here, take care of yourself as you would a new born infant.
Thank you for being here, communicating your experience helps more people than you can imagine...

Oh I have cried BUCKETS in this quit. Maybe it was part of the cleansing process??? felt Hellish at the time. Mind you, it was coupled with the end of a significant relationship and with my daughter leaving home to go off to university. HOW I have cried. Anything and everything. Wiping my eyes furtively at the movies. over baby photos. Over my new house. Over my daughter singing. over the cat lying along my shoulders!!!!! lol - madness.
My sixth week was the end of it for me. A day or two after I'd hit 6 weeks, I suddenly had a spring in my step. Suddenly started to feel........GREAT. (Though my stop smoking Counsellor tells me she thinks these can be cycles that kick off every 8 weeks or so????? Though I've just hit 8 weeks and so far, touch wood - am still feeling fine.)
Hang in there. Get all those tears out. If you're anything like me, maybe you've buried some tears for a LONG time. let them out. It will pass.

Hi Heather,
When you were a smoker you could hide you feelings behind a smokescreen but since you don't smoke anymore you just have no idea how to express your feelings. You have to find new ways to deal with new situations. You will though, don't worry it will takes some time. You will feel better soon and then you can laugh about it. Cry all you want, it cleans the body which is good for everyone. And it's true, this will pass too.
Good luck with the quit.
Love Dutch xx

Heather,
A case of the blues isn't uncommon among new quitters. Smoking use to boost your mood by causing the release of the "feel good" chemicals made by your brain, now that you've quit it's almost like you have a deficit.
We recommend rewards to cure these blues as they can get your brain to boost your mood by releasing these same chemicals. It's time to be kind to yourself as you wait for this to pass.
Hang in there.
Danielle
