cravings are getting worse

angelarachnid, I don't think you need to stop drinking... there's nothing wrong with drinking while quitting... drinking too excess CAN be detrimental to a quit under certain circumstances, but just be careful. I am an advocate of getting on with life as soon as possible after quitting and that includes being able to drink occasionally without smoking or even wanting to smoke. I believe that the more you do certain crave-triggering activities, the weaker the crave response becomes until it completely vanishes and you simply do not crave while doing that activity anymore. Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time in some cases. We all smoked for many years... while 3 months is awesome, it may take longer than that for certain triggers to go away. My tough trigger was drinking and for over a year, everytime I went out, I wanted to smoke. Now, I don't even think about smoking while I'm out drinking! Not at all! But that one took me a long time to overcome. Never fear though... the more you do the things that cause triggers, like playing with cute & cuddly spiders (yuk!) :p the weaker the crave trigger will become until it is finally extinct! BUT, the only way to get there is to not smoke at all... you're well on your way! Congrats on almost 3 months! Crave the Quit! Hi there, The alcohol is just as bad as smoking so if I were you I wouldn't touch a drink. Easy for me to say though cause I never drink alcohol and do not understand why people do that. I think you crave in the afternoon because you think about too much. Try to set your mind to different things or go out for a walk in the fresh air. I hope you do better soon. Angelarachnid, Many members notice an adjustment period after coming off an aid. The cravings will decrease in strength with time. Until then keep distractions and other coping strategies close. Also be sure to reward yourself for staying smoke free. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Angelarachnid, You may be craving in the morning or in the afternoon because that is when you smoked the most? Perhaps you are craving a cigarette at work because that is what you did on your breaks? No matter the reason, continue to fight those cravings head on and use coping strategies such as gum, ice water, etc... to see you through. Keep persevering! If you have lung/breathing problems; it is VERY important that you do not smoke. Lugging an oxygen tank around with you for the last part of your life is not very appealing, is it? Remind yourself of the reasons why you quit...eat more chocolate and drink less alcohol! Like everyone is saying; PROTECT your quit; it will protect your lungs. Hang in there, Ray.
