Zoloft

I took zoloft for almost 5 years and then it just stopped doing the job. Either that or I just took a big downfall. But up until that point it had worked wonders.

Bec, I know the feeling of having your Dr. not understand. my doctor had no concept of mental health at all! After seeing tons of doctors I finally met one who had a great understanding of anxiety. He is awesome and has experienced anxiety himself! So just keep searching- I don't know what country you're in but if you're in Canada just keep going to the walk-in clinics until you find someone who understands and is willing to listen, at least that's what I did. In general though, I think this illness is very poorly understood by the medical profession. They are putting you on anti-depressants because of the anxiety blocking effects these drugs have. True anti-anxiety drugs like the Benzo's (xanax, klonopin, ativan, etc) are addictive but very effective if you take them properly and not for too long. I am on an SSRI antidepressant and it has done wonders for getting the anxiety down to a more managable level. I hope the Zoloft works for you and maybe you could ask your doc about taking a Benzodiazapine until the Zoloft kicks in. Take care Sarah

Hey Bec, Sorry to hear your regular doc was unavailable. It's really tough seeing someone new, and some Doctors' (although I think they mean well, they just don't have a clue!) I was in the ER a few weeks ago with a SEVERE PA and the first thing the Doctor did was bring in a family counselor and put me in a half-way house!(???????) But anyways, I was on Zoloft for a while, and for me personally, it just didn't work out very well, mostly just too many side effects. But I know several people on Zoloft, and it works very well for them. My niece has been on it for several years, and has had excellent results! So you may want to try it, at least until you can get in touch with your regular doctor. Good Luck, HTH!!

Does anyone feel that their doctor just doesn't understand? My usual doctor isn't around this week so I saw a new doctor to get a new medication because my old medication wasn't working. When I told him about the racey unreal thoughts that I have during a panic attac, he looked at me like I was nuts. Then he had the nerve to ask me if I hear voices. I feel like absolutely nobody understands. This doctor put me Zoloft. Has anybody had any luck with that medication? I'm sick of being on antidepressants when what I clearly need and want is an antianxiety medication. Aaaaah, the frustration.
