Anyone else experienced this?

Sorry, I might have logged off last night before your post. Yes I do have CBT Buddies and I get on mostly in the afternoons and no one is ever on there except for phrOOt. Maybe I'll try to get on more in the evenings. It's nice to chat with someone who can give you encouragement especially if you are feeling anxious at that time. Hope to see you on there :)

Thanks for all the support and encouragement everyone. I made myself go to nearly all of my classes this week and I did experience immense anxiety but I just focused on my breathing and taking notes. I made it through all but one of my classes without a panic attack or "blacking out". In my last class today I had a panic attack out of the blue but I made myself stay and focus on my breathing and paying attention instead of on the physical things that I was feeling. I made it through!! I have a debate in one of my classes this coming Monday and I am petrified that I will faint or have a panic attack but I am trying to visualize it daily so I will be ready for it. My anxiety is soooo intense in class but I have managed to go shopping at the grocery alone(yay!!) which is something I haven't done in a long time and I went Christmas shopping at the mall with nearly no anxiety. I am slowly getting better but I still have my setbacks like everyone else. I can really see a difference though and that is encouraging. My fiance has also noticed a difference in me as well. I am going to remain optimistic and try not to avoid the situations that cause me the greatest anxiety. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone :)

Hi Isabella, hope ur feeling better! This happened to me before at home. We had company over and I was eating dinner. All of a sudden I had a HUGE Heart palpatation. So I got up quickly to run to the washroom. Well, I think it was the mixture of getting up quickly and having a heart palpatation (plus the immense fear i had) which caused me to almost pass out. I DID NOT FAINT...but I sure felt like I was. I almost blacked out...its like i couldn't see for a few seconds so i just bent down to the floor incase i was gonna fall or something (I dont know, it just helped me). Anyhow, i was so shaky after that experience and I was definately afraid to sit back down again and continue my dinner with everyone. My avoidance continued for a month.......but i had to put a stop to this nonsense. Its just anxiety right. So, I figured that nothing happened to me the 1st time it happened (even though it felt horrible), so nothing is gonna happen to me this time (if it happens). Just go back to class girl.......dont avoid. It feels good in the short run, but then you will start feeling guility in the long run and you don't want to do that to yourself. Take it one step at a time. Maybe go back and sit close to the door and just take some notes! Keep yourself busy! And if those silly anxious thoughts come and pay a visit.....well just challenge them! I know you can do it (believe me this happened to me in school too)> But i promise that it will get better! :)

Thanks. I plan on talking to my doc at the next check-up. Let me know how your neuro exam goes. Thanks and keep me posted.

Hi Isabella, What you experienced is almost the same thing that happened to me twice at work. I assumed that it was part of the anxiety. But shortly after that ,I began to feel dizzy all the time. I went to my Doc just in case and I am in the process of having a nuero check up. It's just for my own peace of mind. I would talk to my Doc if I were you. Good Luck and God Bless

Thanks for the advice Sue. I am going to make myself go to school tomorrow no matter what because you are exactly right. Avoidance will only make things worse and I am starting to get better now. I have recently been able to go shopping at the mall and other stores with little to no anxiety - yay!!! That just threw me off the other day because it was kind of out of the blue and really really different and scary. As long as I don't die or have something wrong with me then I am ok and I can deal with it. It is just that fear of the unknown that keeps me worried. Thanks for the response though.

It sounds like you got light-headed for a minute, but caught yourself before you passed out. I've felt like that in the past, usually when I get heat exhaustion, but sometimes from anxiety. It's good that you were able to relax after a while, but if you were very anxious in the beginning of the class that may have been enough to wear you out. My non-expert opinion is that you should go to class again at the next opportunity, because avoidance behavior is a huge mistake. I should know, as I've been agoraphobic for the past six years. If you avoid the class then you might start avoiding other places until your world becomes very small and it's so hard to get back out there again. Just keep reminding yourself that it wasn't the class that gave you this experience. The more you go back, the more at home you'll feel there. P.S. If you ever get that feeling again, I found it helps to go somewhere private (like the restroom) and lie down with your feet or at least your knees raised up. It gets the blood back up to your head pretty quickly.

isabella, Try and write down everything you remember and what happened before. This may very well be part of the panic, however, you want to be sure. Take the anxiety test and give it to your doctor to help better assess the situation. use the program to challenge your thoughts and push forward. The members will be along shortly to give support. Keep Strong, Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.
