I know exactly what you are talking about. This is one of my main anxiety symptoms too, and I do actually suffer with acid reflux and I'm on medication for it. I have noticed that is is 100 times worse when I am in the grip of anxiety though.

Hi, I'm a long time reader and first time poster. I suffer from anxiety and I'm currently doing the 12 week panic program course. My main problem is a phobia of acid coming into my throat after swallowing food. I had a terrible situation 18 months ago where I was in the ER for 8 hours having to spit saliva out as I couldn't swallow anything at all and the burning in my throat was unbelievable. Since then I have lost around 30 kilos in weight and the thought of eating and swallowing makes me extremely anxious. When I do swallow something I feel the food slide down my throat and then wait for the acid to come into my throat. I feel this is all anxiety related.
I have no indigestion. I was on nexium for about 18 months which didn't help as my problem is a FEAR of the reflux/choking feeling happening EVERYTIME I swallow food. I was also on paxil for six months due to a terrible relationship situation where I couldn't eat AT ALL for two weeks! I stopped paxil 12 months ago. Can anyone relate? and will the panic program help to cure me? Thankyou so much for any replies. I visit this site daily for support and feel as if I know a lot of you even though you've never heard of me!
