So is there anyone out there who has beat this thing can tell us how to get rid of this common feeling of derealization ....someone must have a tip or two to get rid of this frightening feeling

I am glad I am not the only one...I get that disasociation feeling as well. I asked my therapist about it last week and she said its normal when you have a panic attack and she explained why but I cannot remember how she explained it. It makes the panic attack worse and increases my paranoia. I feel like I am not in control of my body like somebody has possessed it. Scary feeling!

I know it's so annoying. I know it's my panic disorder, but I just want it to go away.I guess in time, it will. Stay positive! Thanks for writing back!

I have this too, all the time during school (I'm a freshman in high school). My friend always reminds me that it happens to her all the time, too, if she hasn't gotten enough sleep - that's kind of reassuring. It's not always a panic thing, it happens to lots of people. I always start worrying I'm going to have a panic attack when I feel like that, "dazy" we call it, because it's not really dizzy, it's more of being in a daze. I just get through it by trying to remember that it's not going to result in a panic attack unless I think it is, and distract myself with something so I don't notice it and worry about it. But I can never really get rid of it, I can just try to forget about it and not mind it. Hope that helps! Katy

I have to say that for me, "derealization" is the worst symptom of my anxiety problem. I've lived with panic attacks/depression for over 15 years, so it's nothing new to me. The only advice I can give for the derealization problem is to try and really focus on the task at hand. I also find that if I haven't gotten enough sleep, this symptom becomes even worse. I guess the best consolation I can give you is that I have the same problem, and you're not in it alone.

I struggle with what i think may be the same thing. The best logic i have is that in order to "function" in the world, my mind/body creat a safer place for me by making the outside world a blur. There are times when i can break free from the blur. I try to remind myself of those times and when they happen, i savor every moment. Usually i break free when i am driving in my car and a great-sing along song comes on radio...for some reason that gives me a sense of peace and self. I dont think that it is important to try to find your diagnosis because in psychology, diagnosis is most usefull for insurance purposes. Try not to focus on what is wrong with you. Place your energy into finding ways to navigate your life so it is most enjoyable for you.
